Made some improvements this week to my map of United States real property (federal land, buildings and other fixed structures) - new agencies and better geocoding, including USPS, TVA and State - filter by property type (e.g. "parking structure") and year built - where available, actual land areas

Today we’re launching Open Climate Risk, a fully open option for U.S. building-level climate risk data. It’s unique because it allows you to see not only risk scores, starting with wildfire, but also the complete underlying dataset, methods, and codebase. carbonplan.org/research/cli...

I sometimes muse about the savage job-destroying nature of the open source community: hundreds of thousands of developers working tirelessly to unemploy as many of their peers as possible by giving away the code they've written for free.

My site now has a search feature! You can also filter by region or theme to narrow results. Technical details: this is a Pagefind implementation, completely static, using the astro-pagefind integration. Overriding parts of the default UI with Tailwind feels like a bit of a kludge but hey, it works.

I talked to @bdon.org about self hosting static maps with @protomaps.com! He mentioned open source maintainers usually only hear complaints from their users 😣 If someone's project helped you build something let them know! www.softwaresessions.com/episodes/pro...
