Pete Hegseth just ordered Cyber Command to stand down in Russian planning.
The arguments it incentivizes a halt to war, taken in stride with the Machiavellian display in the White House in Russia’s favor, really suggests Hegseth is not acting in the United States’ best interest .
Spring 10U baseball is starting up! Got a great seat. It’s a great age because they’re getting more physical and skilled. The real drawback is the occasional projecting parent, which really isn’t too bad. At least in Texas, flag football was wayyyy worse.
Jan 6 must be fully & conclusively adjudicated in a court of law if this country is to ever move forward.
They can't just wish it away unless we let them.
Though the Justice Dept has deleted information about its Jan 6 prosecutions from its website, a federal judge has issued an order listing and chronicling all of the cases and prison terms

So grateful for Martin Luther King day.
We have two fantastic groups all geared up and ready to rumble. @earthjustice.bsky.social and the @aclu.org
We've worked with both and can assure you they're prepared to take on any challenge.
Don't let it consume you
But also don't turn a blind eye
I just finished #thelastarchitect series by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It was stupendous. I picked it up as a random Reddit recommendation for Sci-Fi and couldn’t put it down. Well-developed, well-imagined. Team Olli, all the way. @aptshadow.bsky.social
the "esc" key on a keyboard is a holdover from early-'90s personal computers. on some models it would make the floppy drive start clicking out insults in Morse code about your mom. They put it in the corner to avoid the shame. I hit it at gma’s. Gpa’s railroad training kicked in and I got grounded.
Meet the destroyer HMS Glowworm. In April 1940 she was forced to fight the German Heavy Cruiser Admiral Hipper, ten times her size, and Hipper's destroyer escorts.
Her extraordinary last stand earned her captain the first Victoria Cross of WW2. In part because THE GERMANS nominated him for one /1 🧵
Was something over which I had absolutely no control, and it’s frankly easier to own my identity as a victim of They’re laissez faire attitude toward me than to act like I’m not upset, and live a lie.
This cycle can be broken, somehow, and thanks to accounts that breathe that hope into people
I wish I had a more cheerful ending to this thread, but I don’t. This life is suffering, and I believe in a Higher Power whom I hold - rightly or wrongly - in contempt. I was an innocent little boy. He is complicit in breaking my mind. Is a bit oxymoronic perhaps, but most people when
faced with the Problem of Evil (google it) either decide that God doesn’t exist, or decide to live as if he does. Some others shelve the problem and choose not to confront it.
I’m solidly in the second camp, and choose for now to live pissed at my Higher Power, because doing that to me

People with ADHD are often socially abrasive, but have no idea why. And the correction doesn’t tend to stick because of what is called the “symptom-response-response” cycle. (See The ADHD Effect on Marriage.) I exhibited a symptom, people responded (poorly)
To that symptom, and I respond to their response by doing as the graphic suggests: avoiding, defying, procrastinating. What I’ve been left with is a deeply held conviction that I can never truly be myself because how I truly am doesn’t work, and I’m broken.
When I was about 7, I was in between stepdads and we were living in some apartments behind a Target in Twin Falls, ID. My vision was getting worse, I was terribly sad and upset about a lot of things, had no idea how to cope, and I wanted to be part of a group of kids that hung around with my
Older brother. One night while I was outside with them, an older girl in the group turned to me and said, “If you don’t change, you’re never going to have any friends, for real.”
I remember the shock and the pain of such a harsh statement, even 30+ years later. In hindsight, it was a pivotal

My therapist last week described coping with stress and ADHD like this:
It’s like you’re wandering around in a fog, and to escape the fog, you feel like you have to move fast toward anything that might be a way out, only to find that it wasn’t the way out, and move on to the next.
I felt seen.
What’s with everyone still posting X screenshots? I’m not sure I like points made here that were already made there. If the audience there is deaf, then try it out clean here and see if this one is, too.
One of the things I find difficult about parenting a three-year-old is predicting the chances I’ll be yelled at for offering her the food she literally just asked for. It’s usually 60/40 for yelling, if not outright disappointment, then I forgot to cut the waffles in half and how dare I.
Ernst Mach, whose name you know from the Mach numbers (Mach 1, Mach 5 etc) was also a philosopher and artist who was obsessed with sensation, the below is a self portrait of him called "View from the left eye."
Anyone in the #sre or #businessintelligence space work with data lakes? Trying to wrap my head around correlative analytics using normalized data from different sources and I can’t help but feel like this has probably been solved. Where does one start?
"We cannot continue to participate in the social network feed of a man who proclaims the death of the media and therefore of journalists... X is a platform that no longer serves the public interest at all, but the special ideological and financial interests of its owner and his political allies"
Fellow #adhd adults:
Ever since childhood, I have gotten a glass of water, started drinking it, then decided it was taking too long / kinda sucked / wasn’t thirsty anymore, and I habitually dump out the rest.
I try to only get what I’ll drink, but fail sometimes. Anyone else do this?
Allow me to briefly - briefly - pontificate on what Blizzard is calling “Overwatch 2 Classic.”
It’s Overwatch 1.
Four rounds in with my third, daughter and already miles down memory lane with a Widowmaker kill streak that brought back the good ol’ days, I realized there were two things at play 🧵
… who asked why they did this thing calling it Overwatch 2 instead of just turning the servers back on, Blizzard has a reputation to maintain, and Overwatch 2 is a sunk cost fallacy casualty at this point, but if they attach the NAME of the bad thing to a great thing, the bad thing turns good.

Second: Overwatch 1 being an INCREDIBLE GAME. With some of the best matchmaking for multiplayer ever, and bar-setting toxicity in ranked play, coupled with seriously amped creativity and ease of play, it is worth every cent I’ve spent on it.
As I explained to my daughter…

The first is: Blizzard’s ability to drive internal company culture norms that, ultimately, spawn from an executive’s desk that may or may not actually play.
I’m not being sarcastic. I’m serious about the “may or may not.” Because somebody’s 🍑 is grass if OW2 fails more than it already has.
Happy Thanksgiving.
I’m replaying Horizon: Zero Dawn after purchasing the Remastered edition ($10) and I’m deeply impressed.
There are a few gotchas but the community has many fixes and developers are pumping out patches.
Highly recommend that game.
This week, I was challenged by the universe to address with my therapist(s) my defensiveness.
I pondered on my tendency to be defensive, to be distrusting and unforgiving.
I’ve struggled with my own deep desire for validation, and lack of tools to provide it for myself.
“Intrinsic self worth.”
