i also don't have a lot of motivation to write things in other languages because asking people to have CMake and a C++ compiler on their systems is not a big ask. and i don't use Rust on a basis of this code is important for communication with people that matter to me that don't use Rust.

thinking about chain of history of smilehax: being a way to access memory directly found by members of SBS, and while i was on there, i kind of egged somebody in a dm on to post about it publicly on gbatemp in a rush of teenage excitement. i was stupid for that then tbh, but it's interesting to see

like, the gist of it was if you set BGSCREEN to a particular size [ if i recall from memory ], then the background tile values would map directly to RAM, and you could read and write to it. i remember using it briefly and searching up literals for key words and built in functions and whatnot...

the gist of how this works is: The model knows what it remembers at all times. It knows this because it knows what it remembern’t. By subtracting what it remembers from what it remembern’t, or what it remembern’t from what it remembers (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or memory.

i decided to spend an evening with opus 5.5 on my parametric memory idea and accidentally solved it lol it works on a full deepseek v4.1 flash it uses like 200MBs of VRAM in overhead the model denies memory here cause that's the stock behavior and i wanted a demo with no system prompt at all

made a timer tool for studying that has an auto "AOD" feature so it displays on my monitor without anything else displaying

i thought about this being a blog post sort of thing but i can't really come up with a good way to write it Formally. i think, conclusively, LLMs / agentic engineering are just not for the version of person that i am right now...

genuinely, i think if i understood more, opus 5.5 would be magic beyond belief if it's just a flowing of my ideas and i was able to be a lot more authoritative than exploratory with LLMs. but exploring with LLMs is boring, and i learn nothing. so it feels like it's for a future me that knows more.

or rather, maybe it's more interesting once you exhaust what people have done in that respective field, and you can branch out without reinventing things or doing them shoddily out of curiosity. it's cool to ask the numbers to make something ig but i often don't care about the result lol

i also feel like my version of understanding doesn't come by coding / conversing with an LLM. making stuff with an LLM is like codegooning. i cannot learn unless i either specifically read books created by a cracked author, or participate in ideas sharing in a community, or just Doing It Myself.

rn, i just want to learn math / reverse engineering stuff, and how to apply maths to game engine stuff. i'm unfortunately a very slow learner that can't brute-force shit.

i can make web applications / product shaped things with them, but that's not a thing i really care about unless i'm doing it for a job. regardless of that, finding out what's actually important and good to make requires me to be annoyed more than a preemptive low effort solution machine allows.

programming by hand is actually still a fun activity that's very rewarding and dopamine inducing. to the point where it's a fun leisure activity to do for hours! don't let people tell you otherwise.

systems that organically grow and are tended to end up to keep being better than systems that had Perfect Architecture the first time around. the same with most abstractions. this is a frustrating fact i feel like i had to begrudgingly accept. thank you Mr Gall Law.

look mannn I'm trying to Get the "I don't even read the code anymore" but my 5.6 Luna w/ Sol to debug got stuck on a really stupid CSS / layout issue for like an hour and I finally decided to get off my lazy ass and Read The Code and give an actual REAL OBVIOUS SOLUTION and solved in 2 secs .-.
