Okay, finished wrapping this up into a library. Knocked out a bunch of additional styles and props that were not supported before and fixed up a few bugs including a character counting bug (emojis why??). Hopefully will be useful for people building with react-native. #software #reactnative

Today, we’re excited to announce that the Bluesky network is federating, or opening up in a way that allows you to host your own data! Read more here for how this will affect your experience on Bluesky (in short: it won’t) and why this matters.  bsky.social/about/blog/0...

THIS has me so excited, if you're a software engineer give this paper by @martin.kleppmann.com a read!

Martin Kleppmann@martin.kleppmann.com

I helped the Bluesky team write a paper explaining the underlying architecture and the reasons why it works the way it does. Releasing the paper today to celebrate that you no longer need an invite code to sign up for a Bluesky account: arxiv.org/abs/2402.03239

Hello newskies! (And oldskies too) Bluesky doesn’t have just one algorithm, it has many, and you can pick what you like (or write your own). Here’s a few I made and a few i like: Quiet Posters, posts from people you follow who don’t post that often whose posts you might normally miss

One of the default feeds, For You, that users get in onboarding is built by the @skygaze.io team. While we look like a Twitter alt, under the hood, feeds and moderation services can be run by many different parties. Bluesky is social run by many people and not just one company 🦋

What are your new year’s resolutions? I’ve never really done any. Didn’t see the point. But I kinda maybe get it now.

Controlled scroll feeds would be huge

interesting custom feed idea that i think @jacob.gold shared w me yesterday: show only 10-20 posts/day that get the gist of today's discussion, so you spend 10 min scrolling instead of 4 hours. when you hit like on the posts you enjoy, the algo gets a better sense of what you want to see more of

Let me know about any janky parts of the app that could use some performance improvements! Screenshots/video links appreciated :)

shoutout to our backend & infra team — we smashed through peak activity records yesterday and today's already looking like an even bigger day, and so far systems are working smoothly 😎👌 *knocks on wood*

The current v1 Bluesky system is designed to scale to 1M users. And today we're going to hit 1M users! We will, of course, keep pushing things and *try* to smoothly transition to the v2 Bluesky system later this year. It's designed for >10M users. We just have to finish building the v2 system!

In January, the Bluesky app began with a few hundred users. We’ve since grown past 1 million. I’m proud of what our team has accomplished in the last 9 months: we’ve open sourced the protocol and app, introduced self-verification via custom domains, and enabled algorithmic choice with custom feeds.

i’ve joined bluesky as a software developer. i already announced it on twitter and copypasting doesn’t feel right so i’ll link to my thread: x.com/dan_abramov/.... since bluesky is still invite-only, for now i’ll probably keep using twitter for announcement-y stuff and bluesky for more random posts
