it is of course transphobic bigotry but it should be pointed out that the lie “people need the right healthcare for their biological sex” kills trans people. trans women get breast cancer at far higher rates than cis men. trans men get prostate cancer. hrt changes your sex.

I've had a reply from my MS, and she says this change does not apply to NHS Wales, nor is she aware of any plans to make that change. I know Plaid have not been great regarding the trans surgery pause, but I doubt she'd be lying about this.

I've emailed my local Plaid Cymru MS to see if I can get an answer to this question.

The coverage of the Welsh gender surgery cancellations is some of the most appalling and degrading reporting on trans health this year. Every mainstream editor, clearly tickled at the decision, is going out of their way to add wholly irrelevant sections debasing patients’ bodies to a surreal degree.

Plaid Cymru has the power to intervene to restore lifesaving surgeries for trans patients - but it isn't. No review should come before patient welfare. There is still time to act and put people first.

As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.

Once again a party that claims to support trans people caves when it comes to doing anything meaningful.

The complete lack of outrage on Welsh bluesky about the attacks on the Welsh gender service is as depressing as it is predictable.

This is not good enough. Why do surgeries need to be stopped during this "review"? No patients complained. No doctors complained. It was only some transphobic journalists and MSs who complained, and we all know what they want - the end of all transgender care.

Words will come as little consolation to the hundreds of people who have had lifesaving surgery ripped from them. Plaid Cymru is in government - it has the ability to change this, not just ask. We cannot allow unaccountable NHS boards to go against evidence and democratic mandates.
