NEW: NHS Wales has confirmed that trans patients will NOT go to the back of the waitlist after surgery cancellations - the original referral date will still be honoured.

Sarah Cooper-Lesadd has defected from Reform UK Wales to Plaid Cymru, stating that Reform are targeting minorities instead of working for Wales. But she must show to her constituents that she has moved on from the transphobic campaigns she supported as a member of the Conservatives and Reform.

In a public statement, she said: "I particularly reject the way minorities have too often been used as political targets. I do not believe anyone should be scapegoated or dehumanised to win votes, and I will not be part of a politics that does that." But this alone will not reassure trans people.

Just 426 people were referred for gender-affirming surgery in Wales last year. This compares to: - 8,213 hip replacements - 7,851 knee surgeries - 25,633 cataracts surgeries Until NHS Wales publishes its reasoning, patients will be left in the dark about the future. It's time for answers.

Why have fewer patients from Wales had phallo or meta? (a thread) The Welsh Gender Service opened in 2019. New Victoria Hospital: folk that had stage 1 in 2026 were referred 2019 and 2020. Chelsea and Westminster Hospital: a handful of folk that had stage 1 were referred 2021 and earlier.

3 statements, no action. Thousands of trans people across Wales voted Plaid because they were promised a better, happier future for trans people in Wales. Plaid have been keen to continue this rhetoric - but rhetoric alone will not help the people suffering because of NHS Wales decisions.

More appalling behaviour from the BBC. ⬇️ A trans person interviewed about their horrific experience having their surgery cancelled whilst in the hospital described as 'biologically female'. And then half the article devoted to praising the work of an unemployed transphobe. 🗣️ DEFUND THE BBC 🗣️

The Welsh Government has responded to us and will likely NOT be overruling the NWJCC. “The Minister understands the concerns of people affected by this decision and expects the health board and the NHS Wales JCC to provide appropriate support and to take forward any necessary action as a priority."

“The JCC has escalated the Welsh Gender Service to ensure scrutiny, safeguards and oversight, and to make sure patients receive safe and effective care, through established clinical governance processes.” This once again leaves trans people in Wales with no meaningful resolution or support.
