Well, IT'S READYish. Kickstarter pre-launch is active! Please sign up there if you fancy it. I can then gauge interest which gives me ideas for funding targets, add-ons etc. It should go live in October for an appropriately spooky seasonal Kickstarter! Thank you! www.kickstarter.com/projects/aly...

Students made their first minicomics in my intro making course - mostly standard format but this student, a first time maker(!), did something so off the charts I’m still reeling from it! & he made like 12 of them for his classmates! A paper engineering feat of flipbookery as well as killer drawing!

The Empire State Building went pink at exactly 9:25pm for Dolly Parton. Because of course they made it 9 to 5. That’s how you honor an icon. 🩷

Just finished the 1972 children's fantasy horror series ESCAPE INTO THE NIGHT via YouTube. You'd never get away with such measured pacing today but it's a crackingly eerie little tale. The film PAPERHOUSE was based on the same book by Catherine Storr.

The graphic novel section of a SUPERMARKET.

Popped into a random supermarket while waiting for bus in rural France and THIS was the comic book selection (and only part of it), the majority of titles I'd never even seen before. Magnifique.

Your fact of the day: Adrian Bell was the first cryptic crossword setter for the Times. Martin Bell, his son, was THE Martin Bell - legendary BBC journalist and (briefly) independent MP. But know who Adrian's DAUGHTER was? Anthea Bell, the translator of Asterix comics into English.

Book all but done with a title change! Two 'special' internal pages to finish which I saved as a treat, and the cover is currently underway. It'll go to Kickstarter early Autumn, and I'll set up a pre-launch soon. This is one of the early pages - I will show more eventually - there's 120 of 'em!

"...and under them the ice darkened and began to glide. A channel opened very slowly in the floor, and all their luggage floated out in the river of moonlight. All the suitcases were open and full of darkness and moss, and none of them ever came back."

Annie Lennox is quite amazing in this, but really - the whole thing, brilliant.

You know what we don't talk enough about? Queen & Annie Lennox/David Bowie rehearsing 'Under Pressure' in 1992. So much going on! Everyone's clothes, Bowie with a lit cig throughout, where Annie PROPER GOES FOR IT, George Michael singing along in the background. The amazing vocals. Yes, please!

'Peter, (A Young English Girl)' 1923/4 by Romaine Brooks. 'Peter' is 'Gluck' ('Hannah' Gluckstein). BBC IPlayer currently have a fascinating documentary about Gluck at the mo, but only for a couple more weeks.

Just back from Dubrovnik, and a few days away for my partner’s birthday. Lots of cats of the grumpy variety. On return we discover our local councillor is now Green, which is nice!

Only a few days left for the Orlando Kickstarter! It ends on Friday! I’ll be posting about little bit about Orlando behind the scenes stuff in the run-up. One of the rewards I’m currently making for it is a little zine of references and Easter eggs, which is really nerdy but also really fun to make.

‘The April Witch’ - Ray Bradbury. I first read this in ‘The Golden Apples of the Sun’, (1952/3), and the story was later revised as part of ‘From the Dust Returned’ (2001) which has a cover by Charles Addams. But as April wanes I wanted to post this delightful prose.

Just over a week to go in our Orlando kickstarter! Can you help us get to 200 backers? We're massively thankful for any support you give our books, in these tough times we need all the help we can get to keep making the kind of niche, personal works that we do. www.kickstarter.com/projects/ave...

The way profit maxxing corpo culture has invaded every form of art through algorithms pushing people into daily posting is really weighing on me lately. Efficiency and regularity of making "content" being prized above all else feels so grim, man.

"Cat" is a poem J.R.R. Tolkien first wrote in 1956 for his granddaughter. However, in his Legendarium, the poem was written by Samwise Gamgee, demonstrating Hobbits' love toward comic bestiary lore: a cat that imagined itself as a ferocious beast in its dream. 1/2 #WyrdWednesday #BookologyThursday

After living through the Nazi & atomic bomb eras, Tove Jansson writings would often encompass fearful ideas about loss of a familiar world. However she would balance this with characters who displayed kindness & community, showing goodness even in the darkest times #BookArtWeek

Olden art from the spaces in-between. Drawn for an event in Portland many moons passed. My character Rosie Poe meets Mr Crowley and Mr Lovecraft. A clash of world views, maybe. I don't think it was ever very funny, but I quite liked it. Lettered by Nate Piekos, the one and only Blambot.
