In Hebron, Netanyahu is turning displacement into an election spectacle Israel has expelled 4,000 Palestinians in the past four days, destroying many of their homes and engineering a new reality that we fear will become permanent. By Issa Amro www.972mag.com/hebron-displ...
stuck at home w/ a cold again today, so poking around online to find more about him (Max Thaler, Buenos Aires born klezmer musician played for Galician landsmanshaftn in NYC 1940s-60s). figured out that his dad Elias Thaler (1884–1938) was a fruit peddler in NY probably born in Lviv.
cool discovery last night while searching for NY musicians from Lviv in FamilySearch: realizing that this small-time NY klezmer Mac/Max Thaler, who came up a bunch in my YIVO research last year, not only lived in Lviv but was actually born in Buenos Aires and entered the US as Adolfo Maximo Tala(!)

One more BC thread. The NDP are going to spend a lot of time figuring out what went wrong. I think Eby never found his stride as premier, and the path to leadership was where things started to go wrong. Eby wasn't used to being the bad guy, but the disqualification of Appadurai did not go over well.

My take on the historic election last night here in BC. theconversation.com/david-ebys-e...

The opening line is accurate. "Even by the standards of British Columbia politics, this was an election for the history books." www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
it finds so many more records about Galician people that I am getting a messier picture of some klezmer musicians & their family members.🥺 conversion to Christianity (after 40 years of leaving the village klezmer life behind and being a classical musician), divorcing wives, marrying cousins..
despite not fully understanding how it was put together with AI or how it found stuff I have to admit archival.name is pretty powerful for research for example searching a random place in Galicia (Tarnopol) + Muzykant 🕵️♀️ brings up 100+ results to look at the originals

And this election is going to go down as one of the biggest footguns in BC politics.

Yikes! Who keeps advising this strategy of Eby begging for Green votes. Aside from being somewhat pitiful, it only irritates and cements the decision of decided Green voters and underlines that the NDP have lost the progressive vote.
Supporters of the BC NDP and the Green Party share a lot of the same values. Strong public health care, protecting the place we call home, and asking the wealthiest to chip in more to build a stronger B.C.

ah, it was delayed a bit because it had been misplaced in the archive, but they finally sent it to me. a 1953 memorial essay by Karol Rathaus about his uncle, the klezmer and composer Chune Wolfsthal. you can read it here: drive.google.com/file/d/1X7mW... the draft: drive.google.com/file/d/1xjFL...
huh interesting, the composer Karol Rathaus was Wolfsthal's newphew and wrote an essay of his recollections of him. It's in this archive but I couldn't find it fully digitized online, so I wrote to them.
