Dolly Parton's family asked that, in lieu of flowers, fans make a donation to the singer's Imagination Library. Here's what the charity does ⬇️ www.rollingstone.com/music/music-...

Every summer I repost this article on how to spot drowning. Please read it and pass on. In the last few years I’ve had SIX messages from people who saved a kid’s life after clicking on the link from my feed. slate.com/technology/2...

new zealander everlee wihongi was due to meet with her lawyer yesterday. then ICE moved her to their most notorious tent facility in texas: 3000 people, highest death rate, most sexual assaults. and today, she disappeared off the system. please RT: www.webworm.co/everleehasdi...

Every part of the lily plant is deadly to cats - even drinking water that lilies were sitting in can kill them. Other popular spring flowers like tulips and daffodils can also make them very sick, but there are plenty of beautiful and safe alternatives.

Some mudlarking finds survived for centuries in the muddy banks of the River Thames. Others are freshly baked tasty snacks. 🍪 This biscuit (cookie) set recreates ten of the 350+ mudlarked objects in London Museum's Secrets of the Thames exhibition. The exhibition closes on 1 March. Don’t miss it!

ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.” What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

Hey everyone. My kitty is sick, I found her unresponsive and had to take her to the ER. She's septic and will be in the ER for days. Her care is expected to cost up to $8000. Please help spread the word 🙏🏼 #gfm #crowdfund #mutualaid #animalrescue #vetbills #helpapet #petfundraiser #petsofbluesky

So the weather is crap and it looks like snow is on the way, a nightmare for rough sleepers. StreetLink is an org that helps people sleeping rough, often finding them somewhere to rest for a night. If you see someone who needs help, just ring them and they’ll do rest. thestreetlink.org.uk/start

The Ipswich Portal on the Corn Hill. You can step through it into the streets of Vilnius. Not really. But we can see them, and they can see us. Give us a wave! (I've reposted this, edited on a PC, because the one I edited on my phone got labelled as 'AI generated content'.

BuyNothing is great, and may also be Freecycle in your area. Been able to give craft supplies to a public schoolteacher, Christmas decorations to a divorcee & kids who had nothing, etc. When someone asks for items, the community will almost always swoop in. www.freecycle.org

With SNAP/EBT cuts looming I highly recommend downloading this app! Basically restaurants and other food businesses will have available bags of random food they don’t wanna waste for ppl to buy for hella cheap! This has saved me sooooo many times when I only have $5 and need some food.

The Food Bank for NYC www.foodbanknyc.org

With SNAP benefits ending in a week I just doubled our monthly donation to the Greater Boston Food Bank. Some 42M Americans will lose benefits. Please support your local food banks. They know how to stretch a dollar better than anyone, so please donate money directly rather than buying cans etc.

athenscountyfoodpantry.org Athens County in Ohio is located in rural Appalachia, and is deeply impacted by both poverty and hunger. It is also a beautiful, vibrant community. Home to Ohio University, and a rare deep blue spark in a ruby red state, people who live outside the city limits need help

Donations to Feeding America will filter down to over 200 of the major food banks across the country. bsky.app/profile/feed...

If you're going to donate to a local organization to help with the incoming food crisis, PLEASE do a bit of research first. There are a LOT of organizations that are heavily religious and conservative who WILL discriminate with who gets their assistance.

I was born at the children’s hospital in Washington DC

Hello! As some of you may know, my middle son attends a special needs residential school for children with severe learning disabilities. They are currently fundraising to allow them to offer pony cart rides to the children who live there.

MAGA is destroying the research enterprise that powered America to enduring greatness. The deep impact of this will only truly be felt in a few decades, by which time all these criminals who are doing the destroying will blame those impacts on more immediate causes. slate.com/life/2025/10...

A neat tool I just came across: Viabundus, a digital road map of northern Europe 1350-1650, that lets you calculate contemporary travel routes/times. In 1500, going Amiens → Köln by horse took almost 7 days and 13 toll payments. #medievalsky www.landesgeschichte.uni-goettingen.de/handelsstras...

legit crying so hard right now about this little boy who gave away his skateboard to save a little kitten

Do I know anyone in the SC area who knows someone (or *is* someone) who wants to adopt two cats? I desperately need to find a home for my parents' two cats. I already have three, so I can't take them. They are boarding at their vet while I look, and I have to go home to PA in less than a week.

😢 A stray who was hit by a car came into the shelter a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in sponsoring him to help with medical costs - which included leg amputation. His name is Hopscotch. www.instagram.com/p/DMjGYxOP9n...

Melvyn Bragg has been one of the last standard-bearers for a really important, and unfashionable, idea: that good conversation, between people who really know their stuff, on complex or difficult subjects, can be fantastic radio - and that the national broadcaster should do this. I hope it endures.

IMPORTANT PSA: If you find kittens all alone, keep tbis helpful flowchart in mind. And also: —neonatal kitten need to be on a heat source & kept warm at all times, they cannot regulate their body temperature and you can kill them by feeding a cold kitten. —NEVER feed a bottle baby kitten COW’S MILK!

God damn, this is sad. He was just so amazing in even the smallest roles.

They should do it anyway for the environmental benefits.
