Remember when DDR4 RAM was on the way out and cheap? Yeah... me too. Lately my NAS has been running low on RAM. Using swap turns it into an unusable lump. So I bit the bullet and bought a second hand 32GB stick of dual rank DDR4. OUCH!

I haven't heard back from the people claiming copyright on the NES music of Level 1 of Super Mario Bros. 2 USA. Of course... I'm sure the tactic is to ignore these disputes until the time out, where they lose that individual claim.

The game music was composed by Koji Kondo for the 1988 release of the game. This seems like a big scam as this track was uploaded Oct 12, 2026. How do I contest this as they have managed to gain the copyright for this track by simply uploading it to YouTube. 2/2

I got a copyright claim on the Super Mario Bros. 2 first level music by this company. I looked it up and apparently they made a remix of the music and are claiming a match from music coming straight out of the console! (Or a clone console in this case.) Sigh ...

Rebooted my lab PC, and I got a pop-up when the GPU drivers tried to auto-update. Claims my AMD Ryzen 5600G integrated Radeon graphics aren't supported anymore? Has AMD given up on consumer graphics entirely? Either that or their drivers are track. Probably both...

*SIGH* Even in all the clutter down here in the basement, I very rarely misplace things... But I have misplaced the cleaning drill bit for my Hakko desoldering iron. I should just order another one versus spending a bunch of time looking for it. It's small and probably rolled off my bench... :-(

I just picked one of these up. It's very similar to the 703 that you might see me using on videos, but I figured why not get this. $74 shipped. The major difference on the ZT-706S is the 66,000 count multimeter. Plus It has a (slightly more) useful frequency generator.

MartyPC.net, the web based cycle accurate IBM PC emulator has gotten a massive upgrade including tape loading support! This is just so cool to all be running inside your browser. Highly recommend you check it out.

An absolutely massive update to martypc.net Now you can choose to emulate four different systems, from the IBM 5150 to the Tandy 1000. On the PC you can now can choose from a number of video cards all the way up to VGA. And oh yeah, Adlib (OPL2) syntheis. #retrocomputing #emulation #martypc

What a community! @factorofmatt.bsky.social made a special version of the FOM keyboard tester for this one of a kind C64! youtu.be/uFMAToFtGgY

@adriansdigitalbasement.com found (and fixed) a C64 that had a terrific hardware hack. In honour of that machine I've patched my Keyboard tester program to suit it better.

I have a Woz Apple IIgs with a motherboard from 1988 (chip dates) but it has the IIe PSU and keyboard connectors installed. It also has what appears to be an OEM-like PSU fan installed onto a 1987 Week 01 IIgs PSU. Warranty replacement board perhaps? But why the IIe connectors?

If you're into Commodore and you're in or around Seattle this weekend, you need to check out this show! Unfortunately, I will not be there.

This is what I love to see! Aaron reverse engineered the Apple /// Profile interface card and released it as OSH, so any Apple /// owner can now get up and running with a Profile hard drive. (Incidentally AlexTheCat's ESProfile emulator works with the Apple ///) github.com/PCGamerAaron...

FFS!! To update my supporter scroll on my videos, I have to manually download the YouTube Member list from the Youtube Creator Studio as a CSV. Fine, only takes a few clicks. I just went to do this, and the download button just doesn't do anything. Logged out & back in again: still broken. 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Hot take: The classic Amiga has the most crappy and brittle filesystems of any retro computer. (I'm talking about Fast File System.) You just look at it wrong and it gets corrupted. To make matters worse, the included "disk doctor" tool is worthless hot garbage...

I wasted my entire day with my A600. I setup a fresh copy of workbench and was copying about 1.5GB of stuff onto the second partition DH1, when the copy process just sort of "stopped." Machine wasn't frozen though... I rebooted and was greeted with a totally non-bootable corrupt system. AGAIN. 😡

Here's a new one: My Amiga 600 has been acting up lately, slow, filesystem getting corrupted, block errors, etc. It turns out the 16GB PNY SD card I was using for the boot drive took a huge crap. No matter which card reader or computer I plug it into, it only ever runs about this fast. WTF!

I seem to have no spare working Amiga floppy drives around, so I just setup a Teac FD-235HF-3240 to work with the Amiga. If you have a 3XXX version of this drive, there are bunch of small jumpers: Set RY34 (Ready signal on pin 34) and DC2 (Disk change on pin 2.) Then set DS0, FG, HA, HF and NMK.
