I've heard folks from outside the US, esp. non-anglophones, say we're "weird about AI" (as in, *markedly* more anti-AI). If true, I think it boils down to this: a sense that the power structures in our society are not aligned to bring any good to normal folks. It's a big club and you're not in it.
Me since 2012: Everything abt "AI" as currently construed is inextricably woven w/ carcerality, capitalism, white supremacy (w/ racism, ableism, sexism, & LGBTQ+ hate being foundational thereto), hegemony, & kyriarchy, & we must name, examine, & deconstruct those before we can build something better

Symbols matter. White House isn't a palace. Kennedy Center is for the general public to enjoy. We don't have a triumphal arch in DC because that's imperial. We don't put the president's face on money because it's monarchical. It's about tearing down everything that says we're a democratic republic.
I know there’s a savvy take that being attached to the east wing or the kennedy center is a sort of west wing lame-o attachment to the symbols of power and on the other hand he fucking bulldozed our collective property

*rummaging for bread under an overpass* at least my hypothetical 7-year-old will never stare down a knuckleball thrown by a trans girl
Another Iowa Dem releases an ad in response to anti-trans ads against her. "We need to protect kids, and we need common sense rules to keep sports fair for boys and for girls. Parents know what's best for our kids. Washington needs to stay out of it." From Lindsay James, IA-02.

This is one of the objections I have when people talk about how useful LLMs can be for literature searches or for any kind of search, really. Even beyond the biases that inevitably (and, in some cases, intentionally) show up, part of a good literature search is seeing information *in context.*

my 2028 candidate is whoever promises to take the construction equipment that lay waste to the east wing of the white house and drive it directly to the supreme court of the united states
#BREAKING: Over public dissents from the three Democratic appointees, #SCOTUS grants stay of district court injunction in Alabama redistricting cases, clearing the way for Alabama to use its 2023 map.

WE DON'T NEED PETROLEUM-BASED PLASTICS ANYMORE! "The [bamboo plastic] outperforms most commercial plastics and bioplastics in mechanical and thermo-mechanical metrics while maintaining full biodegradability in soil within 50 days and closed-loop recyclability with 90% retained strength."
