I would love it if "Subtractive Engineering" became more popular. An analogy (because we love those), you can get rich extruding plastic and sending it all over the world, but removing plastic and preventing plastic from entering the environment is a much harder task. htmx.org/essays/code-...

@taurean.bryant.land thank you so much for squire.guide! My partner and I have been using it to help with our ADHD and it's been great ♥️. One small feature request/feedback, on the Today view it doesn't show the Area of each task, I think that'd be useful (at least to me)

So, I made a thing. Vitest running React Native in emulators/simulators, without mocking. This strategy will I hope close the gap in testing React Native apps, where mocking-based strategies have been leaving large holes in test coverage throughout the ecosystem: github.com/pzuraq/vites...

I'm chuffed to bits to be launching talat.app - 100% private, 100% on device realtime meeting transcription and summarisation. Think Granola, but none of your data ever leaves your device, and without your every interaction being tracked. The beta launches today: macOS m-series chips only for now

talat.apptalat — private meeting notes, on your Mactalat records and transcribes your meetings locally using on-device AI. Nothing leaves your Mac.

There’s a long-standing idea that implicit throw/catch isn’t as practical as it seems, and errors should be returned explicitly (as in Go). For TypeScript, a proposal suggests returning either a value or an error so the type system enforces handling. errore.org

Last night I had the joy of returning to the place I call home: around a piano, with a gorgeous group of friends, singing show tunes until our voices gave in. Sing Out, Louise! is now open at the Phoenix Arts Club! Huge congrats to the team for pulling this off ♥️🎹

Btw you don’t need to be a web spec author or work for a browser vendor to contribute to this. If you spot some incorrect data (either says it supports web it doesn’t, or says it doesn’t when it does) then open an issue — or better yet a PR! Make things better for everyone, including future you!!

Patrick Brosset@patrickbrosset.com

The browser-compat-data project (used by MDN, caniuse, and tools) now has: 20,000 commits 1,123 contributors 465 releases 19,148 data entries That's what comprehensive web compat data looks like. And it takes well funded teams at @openwebdocs.org and @mozilla.org plus amazing contributors.

I’m SO excited for this! I’ve read almost every book from the Cosmere, and out of all the streamers out there, I trust Apple TV the most when it comes to faithful adaptation (especially when the author is involved, and Brandon was very clear he wanted to be 👀)

R. Alex Anderson@ralexanderson.com

Um... What? This is awesome because a) Brandon gets full creative input and b) Apple TV is a phenomenal studio these days. This is still preliminary (in Sanderson's own words, this would be step 3 of 8), but exciting!

I've been quietly building kindling.wtf — a regenerative feed layer that removes cruelty without removing controversy. The idea: your feed shouldn't be full of spite masquerading as reasonable commentary, but it also shouldn't sanitize away legitimate anger at injustice. More below ⬇️(1/4) #atproto

UPDATE: We may see the first time English is displaced as the most popular language among Bluesky posters as soon as Americans head to sleep tonight. Japanese users were close to achieving that feat at 7 am Eastern Time, and their activity is increasing at an exponential pace. This is remarkable.
