Sincere question for you (to you because your post appeared in my timeline): Do Americans realise that one can only euthanize someone if that person actively requests it? Otherwise it would be... well, murder?

It's a language thing. In some languages (English excluded), "euthanasia" is a term for "assisted suicide". In English, it is used for "medicalized killing", consenting or not. And in this case, it's extended to mean "social hygiene", so to speak – Nazis believe such killing to "cleanse" society.

Ah thank you. I agree it is disgusting! These days I am not sure how to interpret any news anymore. I remember when the Netherlands legalised it under strict conditions it got a lot of bad press internationally, the USA included. Image my confusion to hear support for (this type of) euthanasia now.

As a small light in the darkness, we at least found one of the few good landlords. Refusing the cops to clear out the camp because it's on private property and blaming the city for inadequate care.

I'm reminded of Eliot Ness' response to his inability to catch the Cleveland Torso Killer; burn down the shantytowns the victims lived in, because it was easier than actually protecting them (especially when the likely killer was related to a political rival, and thus wasn't pursued).

I'm trying to wrap my head around this from far away and maybe it looks different on the ground, but what is going on with addiction programs in Minneapolis? Because a google is showing me that area has absolutely no methadone or suboxone clinics and if drugs are really the issue shouldn't there be?

In my dream world every clinic should offer it just as you would offer STI testing, birth control, prenatal care, etc. In a dignified and accessible manner. :/

Bunch treatment centers got shutdown because they over billed medicaid. Bunch more shutdown because of lack of funding. Don't know about Hennepin county (Minneapolis) but next door Ramsey county (St. Paul) is shutting down their county treatment home and stopped efforts to build new ones.

Basically while we blame everything on the drug addicts we've done nothing to help them stop being drug addicts, Similar is done with homelessness. Where the "solution" seems to be to destroy their property (in violation of court orders) at encampments and hope that means they stop existing.

startribune.comRamsey County proposed budget includes closing detox center, levy hikeCounty Manager Ling Becker presented her initial budget proposal to the County Board this week. A final vote on the budget and the levy increase is not until December.

Whole of local governments have taken a tough on addiction and tough on homelessness approach, it's not clearly not working, but the governments have claimed victory over and over again after every encampment they destroy, that just moves to a different area.

The United States is a lawless, rogue nation. I would strongly advise against a visit, no matter who you are or where you come from. People are dying every day. People are abducted every day. People are detained, every day.

“Bulldoze people’s tents, fence off their space, and call it leadership,” Sabri said. “But it isn’t leadership. It’s an illusion of control designed to make the problem less visible, not less deadly.” Hamoudi Sabri gets it.

Fox just like the orange blob inciting violence, it happened at the end of 2020, and now fox did dit it, it is disgusting how this kinda thing is even allowed. Criminals belong in jail, not in public positions…

no shooter has been caught and there is no mention of any help offered to other people on the street, even though it seems clear that they could be in grave danger

Unfortunately, I'd be surprised if they even try to find the killer. Nobody (especially police) bats an eye when unhoused people are killed or disappear. They're already placed past the periphery of our vision. Our society conditions us to ignore them.

the two shootings were 12 hours apart. maybe they weren’t connected, but it seems pretty suspicious and it is disgusting how much this is being portrayed as another problem with homeless people

no details yet, but I was just listening to a radio show episode last night where I heard of the evils of fostering violent rhetoric, and how before there's unity we must confront that with the truth and demand accountability, and I'm wondering why that fox host still has his job after what he said.

Good Lord! This is terrifying! We're houseless and about to homeless. Life is hard enough without worrying if someone is going to harm you for being vulnerable and poor. Project 2025 is trucking right along and the cosplaying Christians are rejoicing.

I need to stop scrolling for my mental health but at the same time I need to be aware because we’re here because more than half the county can’t be bothered to be aware
