Bluesky is plotting a total takeover of the social internet. In an interview with WIRED, CEO @jay.bsky.team says that as Bluesky is built on an open protocol, other apps are starting to fill in spaces traditionally occupied by apps like TikTok or Instagram.

You really can't stop ill-intentioned people from coming onto the site. Best we can hope for are tools for ignoring the trolls, malcontents, and salesmen, and platform leadership that isn't trying to further its own broken agenda. 1/2

I also like the idea of allowing content filtering, authentication, truth verification, etc. to be handled by 3rd parties. I thought this was promised by Bluesky but I haven't seen much of yet. Still hopeful though. 2/2

Thank you for all that you do. I was never a social media type person but through watching Ojeda Hal sparks was a quest and both me and my partner decided to go on Bluesky and we both love it. Thank you again Tiger 🐅

As long as this social media site doesn't turn into hateful X, or Facebook. I came to this site to get away from the hateful drama, to be able to have conversations without everyone becoming insulted just because I don't agree with them. To have meaningful conversations. Just don't ruin this site.

Wired, if you're upset by Bluesky growing....thank Elon. If Elon hadn't ruined Twitter for all but his rabid right followers, I'd still be there. Stayed there a long time, in fact, until it got too toxic. Tried out a couple of other early alternatives...didn't fit my needs.

The more people that join here, the rougher Bluesky has become. Anyone else notice? Rudeness and arrogance are far more common than when I joined a few months ago. Trolls and bots on the upswing too. And we STILL don't have an edit button...

I’m thinking eventually there will be an app like Bluesky and it will link to likeminded apps that replace FB, IG, etc. Then there will be a separate but similar group of apps based around Truth Social and never the Twain shall meet.

Well BlueSky is gonna have to do better with its Trends and hashtag management. It’s still not as user friendly as Twitter was (pre-Musk). Harder to see what’s happening, respond, and get views. A lot of people have gone back to Twitter because of it. Just saying.

Until I get the same info, especially sports, as quickly & easily, as I can on twit space, I’ll be dissatisfied w/ bluesky. There are placeholders for many of my local news & sports. They don’t use it. @bsky.app should try something to stop the practice of just ‘holding a spot’. RECRUIT THEM TO POST

Personal opinion, I would much rather Bluesky stay as a smaller, lesser-known platform instead of a larger, well-known platform. Nowadays most of the famous, larger social platforms are a massive pool of problems. Not saying that Bluesky is exempt from this behavior, but we see it LESS here.

Hmmm. If followers is their thing they can easily pick up thousands on bluesky just by hitting all the starter packs. But if their content is bad they'll just get blocked. I rarely have to block here.

The thing is they have been on twitter for years and some have opened accounts on here and you never see them again. One said to me blue-sky is an echo chamber and there is no way they can get 10k followers. I checked out of twitter 7 months ago and deleted my account.

I would not call this site an echo chamber. In fact there is little discussion which annoys me. Folks just hit the like button and maybe a repost if you are lucky. Bluesky will not evolve or become relevant if there is no community.

Anything that caters to one political point of view is not going to take over the internet. Daily active user numbers for Twitter/X in the US have dropped, with some reports indicating a decrease of 23% since November 2022, according to Sensor Tower.

To all the naysayers saying the AT Protocol "should not" be used to create a TikTok-like experience (freed from the corporate profit motives of big tech) I say: Get the frig out of here. I would much rather Instagram & TikTok replaced by Open replacements.

These Aps are just ways to spin your wheels without true Connections. Having "Followers" is not a Human Connection. It creates a Compartmentalized Society. Part of the reason there seems to be so much Damn Indifference to the Fascist Nazi Pigs Destroying our Country!

Society has seemingly forgotten that google once "[did] no evil." You may say, "but this isn't about google!" it is! Google seemed to advocate for doing right, of course we use its browser and email and searches and even YouTube, sure. I will say, I like bsky's dedication to open source, but...

... It's important to remember, and even expect, that the values of a company can change with shareholder influence and risk of usurpation at any time. Competition is good, absolutely, but any one company having most of the users on all of the platforms is alarming, not reassuring at this point.

But that's kind of what they're fighting against. The whole idea of Bluesky's underlying technology is that if Bluesky itself becomes bad, users can take their followers with them and leave rather than having to start from zero. The other apps that Jay mentioned are independent of Bluesky's team.

the FYP is where TikTok really shines. It's going to take a lot to make that experience the same on the AT protocol. I think they need to focus on that algorithm and let app devs make a video focused app for it.

She pivots those morons’ mistakes to be her company’s strengths, well played sister! Hope she crushes stupid AF TikTok & continues to redefine social media as we know it.

I don’t feel like I’m being censored on here… I don’t say anything bad, I’m a teacher for Gods sakes lol but I get comments reported all the time on TikTok 😳😂🤦‍♀️
