Post

I just typed out a comment to a post, re-read it, thought "Oh, right, I'll look like a fucking creep if I post that" and then deleted it, which is a reminder that the reason I came up with "The failure mode of 'clever' is 'asshole'" is because I need the warning as much if not more than other folks

I just did the same John. I had a truth that I felt awfully inclined to type, then slowed down and remembered that wasn't really my truth to post about. I can have internal empathy about that particular truth, but it doesn't belong to me to deliver publicly.

This is one of those things that I’ve always known, but you’re the first person I’ve seen put it into words

For the longest time this was my pinned Tweet on Twitter. I still think it's good advice because you get to excise some anger, without contributing to societal anger

All my little rituals and aphorisms are based on my life experience. Always feel free to presume things about my history for which I have adopted an avoidance for. “My keys are either in my pocket, or in my door, and they are grabbed _every_ time I leave.” 😐 Yep, you guessed it.

and remembering that everyone else reading your posts will not have the context you have inside your mind when you wrote it. it’s a true skill to be able to read your own work from a viewpoint of how could anyone misinterpret what i just wrote in the worst way possible.

Always a good rule to post by. The internet would also be a *slightly* more tolerable place if more people stopped and considered: "How does this come off to someone who doesn't know me on a friendly level?" and "Will the lack of tone make this read differently than I intended?" before hitting post.

There is often something cathartic about writing the thing and then not sending it. I used to often do this at work - take an email draft to my boss, we'd both laugh and then he'd cross most of it out and write something we could actually say to the client or whoever it was.
