Retired writer, editor, and software developer. Very liberal fan of Bernie Sanders. Proponent of letting people make their own choices rather than letting the government tell women to not have abortions and the families of trans kids to not have treatment.

I automatically block certain people who follow me: Accounts about spreading religion, accounts about pictures of pretty girls, accounts about sharing the winnings of a lottery, accounts about MLM and other scams (including "entrepreneur coaching"). Some of you folks are wasting your time.

I still think we should open the Donald John Trump Memorial Pay Toilet. All the urinals and toilets have his image where things land. $5 a flush and we put the money to the national debt. He'd finally fulfill a promise and make everyone happy in the process.

That's how they've looted the nation for decades now. Imagine the nation we could have if the 50 trillion dollars that have been directed to .1% had been spread among the working and middle classes: Universal health care, free college for anyone who can get passing grades, one-income families, etc.

🔥 BEN MEISELAS ERUPTS: The Cheesecake Factory faux outrage exposes the propaganda machine. They brainwash Americans into fighting each other while oligarchs steal our healthcare, send our kids to endless wars, and buy more yachts. Divide the people. Enrich the oligarchs.

Damn. 90 and much loved by many is a good run. But still, damn.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

The energy we need from the Ds here in the US.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

I want flying cars and a city on Mars, O'Neill colonies and interstellar probes. But a society that can't provide clean water, stable culture, a habitable planet, and healthy wildlife... can never give us those things. They have to come first.

Surgery. In 1980, I had to have knee surgery. Arthroscopic surgery was still on the horizon in my little town, so it was the full procedure, and the recovery was months long.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

In 2017, I had to have my appendix removed. Laparoscopy to the rescue, and I went home 20 hours after arriving in the emergency room. Recovery was a matter of a couple of days. I missed only one day of work.

Imagine would life for the middle and working classes could be if we hadn't committed this horrible idiocy: no one bankrupted by health care, college for anyone who can maintain decent grades, families living on one income, and more. Trickle-down fuckery took all that from us.

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

The upward redistribution of wealth over the past 50 years has shifted $80 trillion from the bottom 90% of Americans to the top 1%. That’s $80 trillion that would have gone into the paychecks of the working class. The greatest trick of all is trickle-down economics.

If you are a Christian and find yourself voting for Republicans, you should quit calling yourself a Christian and call yourself a Nazi.

Some corporate Democrats and pundits think the party has gone too far "left" and needs to readjust towards the “center.” Rubbish. Where’s the center between democracy and oligarchy, and why would Democrats want to be there?

I just got home from voting. Today was the first day of early voting here in TX. I was going to wait till tomorrow in case the first day is busy (which it is - hooray!), but I decided to brave the crowd and get it done. It went smoothly, I'm happy to say.

I followed my standard paradigm: Blue all the ways down, unless it was a race with no parties mentioned. Then I voted for the female candidate. If all of them were female, I voted for the black or Latina person. If that still didn't decide it, I voted for the last one in the list.

Seriously, these amazingly evil and stupid fucks read 1984, The Handmaid's Tale, and Fahrenheit 451 and took them as instruction manuals. As a former English teacher, I want to slap the whole lot of them and then make them write papers until they GET IT.

Republican politicians are *obsessed* with schoolchildren coming home a different gender because of pro-trans teachers, WHICH NEVER HAPPENS. But they are completely indifferent to schoolchildren not coming home *at all* because of guns, WHICH HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!

Until we destroy the ridiculous wealth #inequality we have, we're going to be stuck with the #billionaires pushing #enshittification in every possible way.

If the GOP didn't lie, they'd have nothing to say.

An ad attacking Maine Democratic Senate candidate Troy Jackson features a quote from a union leader. He tells NBC News he never commented on Jackson's plan and was "shocked" to see the quote.

The right gets off on cruelty, not realizing that the oligarchs will inflict it on them, too.

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, gun reform, universal child care, and a living wage. And we certainly wouldn't have public executions. The right-wing agenda isn’t about “life.” It's about cruelty.

I'm done with Newsom. We can do better.

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

It’s bad enough that Gavin Newsom opposes California’s Prop 40. But he also supports Prop 42, a billionaire-backed poison pill that would cancel out Prop 40 entirely and make it impossible to enact future wealth taxes. It’s clear whose side he’s on. Remember this in 2028.

Yet another reminder that he's a demented narcissist who believes anything he says must be true. As I say every day, may he die today.

Q: You said Russia and Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire, but both sides said they have not agreed to that TRUMP: Well they agreed, you know why? Because I said 'you agree.' That's why.

Truth. Technology always creates as many problems as it solves, and that's on its good days.
