This is blame I'm happy to accept. Authors, check to see if you're eligible to receive compensation in the Anthropic Settlement and if you are, file that claim. secure.anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com/lookup

Personally I blame @scalzi.com — I'm filling out claims for the Anthropic AI class action settlement and my brain is melting. (They pirated at least 29 of my books! And so I get to squint at a web form with only one mostly-working eye as I cut'n'paste the relevant deets ...)

There must be some kind of sorting going on for who qualifies for a settlement; while case was in progress, I looked myself up in that database, and there were two things I did, as well as things by a few other Bill Savages. Now, none there. Wonder why. . . .

It's a split usually 50:50 because the claim is for "rights". They have publishing rights, you have moral/copy rights. It will suggest the 50:50 default unless it's an education book but you can put in the split your contract says and add your contract as proof

That's what I noticed. I basically filled in publisher and any co-authors, and said I didn't know if there was any other arrangement, and took the 50/50. Not sure what my publisher will do, though.

Did you ever get a confirmation email from them after filling in all the info? Heather’s yet to get an email confirming her submission on her dad’s book - although we did make sure to screen cap and save a pdf of the confirmation screen…

Better warn folks that if you leave the form idle for about 15 minutes it times out, and doesn't save your part-completed work! (Which is a pain, if you're partially-sighted and squinting at the screen gives you a headache.)

According to FAQ #46, if you do nothing you still remain a member of the class. You lose your right to sue independently and you don't get paid. Therefore I am: 1) Filing my claims. 2) Hating this settlement.
