war crimes aside, I am increasingly irritated at how much of our time and energy is eaten up by this tiny little country that treats us like dog shit and still expects endless money and deference. we have our own problems

I genuinely think Israel seriously miscalculated the impact of this war on American public opinion. They will try to finish the annexation of Palestine and then switch the government and pretend they always were against this. I don't think it will work.

I disagree that this was not calculated. There isn't a government in the world that doesn't calculate their actions. And as a historian of fascism, I can say with certainty that genocide is never immanent. It is planned.

at least a senator he will have some (minimal, 1/100) influence over foreign policy. It was triply annoying when they were doing it to Mamdani, a guy running for the job of filling the potholes on my block.

The strange thing for me is why a country with a $720 billion dollar economy, the 7th largest arms industry in the world and nuclear weapons, needs billions of dollars of US tax-payer money and weapons to defend itself.

That money is spent on American defense contractors and other war profiteers, who then pay off elected officials with campaign contributions and other legal forms of bribery to support Israel, and the cycle continues.

you may be right, forcing him to waste time on this bullshit during every public appearance is meant to stop him being winning any hearts by talking about his actual platform, because the interviewers know that he is charismatic and convincing when he gets camera time

I didn’t mean to undermine the importance of the atrocities committed by Israel. Just that they’re using it as a cudgel to mute his real platform like you say

But AES also has to turn it back on the interviewer. After the second question he needs to redirect and challenge the interviewer to talk about other things as well. Reframe the debate. What ever you want to call it.

JFC it only took 2 years for people to finally realize that Israel is just another fucking wedge issue that the Right is using to try to divide and conquer the rest of the country *TBF WAR CRIMES 6000 MILES AWAY IS STILL IMPORTANT BUT NOT AS IMPORTANT AS UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE OR ENDING THE OLIGARCHY

Israel is about the size of Greece. I love Greece, my best friend is Greek, but if every single American election from mayor's races on up was consumed by idiosyncratic Greek questions, I'd get tired of it real fast

None of you have ever heard of Hellenophobia. But antisemitism is a word that no one reading this has gone a single day of their posting life without hearing. And yeah, there are real historical reasons for that, but still.

What is he talking about? We don't do religion over here. Yes, we have a small number of politicians who happen to be Muslim but religion is very much regarded as a personal matter. A politician saying 'I took this action because of my religion' would not last long.

It's not the same level i know but Greece sort of had its moment there for a while with "If we don't impose austerity and stop with 'the spending' we're gonna be like Greece. Greece, I tell you!" in every US economic discussion at least.

My stalwart position that “Most Greeks are somewhat Turkish and most Turks are somewhat Greek, population exchange of 1923 be damned” would probably get in the way of me winning any of those seats 😢

Israel is a military installation of the US imperialist financial oligarchy. This is not a case of the tail wagging the dog. Israel is a parasitic outgrowth on the US American public the same as our own ballooning military budget is. You can't separate Israel from US empire or US capitalism.

I don't hold it against Israel that they expect endless money and deference from the US, but I do hold it against the large swaths of the US political and journalist landscape who agree with Israel on that and take it as a tenet of faith that everyone else does.

Feels like a deliberate choice by the American populace to keep this obsession going They ignore war crimes and genocides all over the world They want to focus on this one country We all know why

The way around this is to answer by talking about Israel’s health care system and how we are paying for it but not our own.

Yes, but the mainstream media serves non Jewish zionist masters and leftists are incentivized to use it as a wedge issue because the current Israel government is so villianously evil.

Same. I think a lot of these problems can be solved by the sitting POTUS telling whomever the head of state is there at the time, they'd better fucking knock this shit off right now, or they're cut off, and take a few steps toward cutting them off to illustrate the threat.
