- He was trying to board a flight to Miami. We don't know why he was trying to go to the United States. - You don't know? We don't have extradition with the United States. - So what should we do with him? - For fucks sake, put him on the next flight to Miami!

I agree, but convincing blue states to get rid of these sin taxes will be a real obstacle.

i don't think anyone should run explicitly on banning online gambling but i do think that a democratic-led government should just quietly take steps to undermine the industry and create an inhospitable regulatory environment

It’s very funny to say this about the people who invented “numbers.”

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

UNM Hospital (New Mexico's only Level I Trauma hospital) is experiencing a "cybersecurity issue." All ambulances being diverted to other hospitals, clinic appointments canceled, hospital says "UNM Health patients should not show up to UNM Health facilities on October 26."

Couple of random (mostly spoiler free) thoughts on YCSE. It's one of the greatest works of meta-fiction/meta-narrative in recent years. It joins Synecdoche, New York and Paul Auster's City of Glass in that vein.

The other works it reminds me of (spiritually, not literally) is Little Dieter Needs To Fly and Rescue Dawn, wherein Herzog made a documentary and feature about the same guy.

Exactly one week ago plenty of people on here were ready to absolutely bury Lula and leftism as failures. Nothing is written.

The ex-presidents are doing Debra Vance jokes

Former presidents are just roasting the hell out of the White House redo today and it’s going to drive Trump absolutely insane

Love to get a collections notice for $4,000 for pharmacy benefits that I supposedly got for an HIV drug that I do not take…

The coaches keep sending increasingly threatening emails like "If we don't get more parents to volunteer, this stuff won't happen!" And it's like... yeah, man... ask yourself if that's worth thinking about for a few minutes.

This would be like mourning Russian soldiers getting killed in Ukraine…

I’m grieving the deaths of the two Israeli soldiers killed in Hebron today, and praying for the full & speedy recovery of those who were injured.

I love The Beatles as much as anybody, but let's not say things we're going to regret...

I am the Walrus might’ve been the first true banger in modern music.

Yeah man… that’s kind of a 12-year old boy’s whole deal.

Jonn Elledge@jonnelledge.bsky.social

a 12 year old boy, happy in his own little world, in blissful ignorance that the words "I'm sorry, could I just get past" or "excuse me" could have anything to do with him

People who have been around politics a long time may be struck as I was by the sheriff's signature on this arrest warrant for Amy Acton's stepfather, who at the time was a fugitive. Does the name James Traficant ring a bell?

In the mornings we put our bodies between the children and the cars. Between the drives of these cars, who see these tiny people not as the beautiful young souls they are, but as obstacles in their way. Some of the children are our flesh and blood, but all of them are OURs.

I watched Disclosure Day last night. The movie sags pretty badly in the third act, but Emily Blount's performance is super compelling. Could use less of Bono's daughter in pretty much everything these days. Colman Domingo's role is so gentle and beautiful. Solid B.
