Just putting this out here for now, should do better to connect the dots pardon, but, Bao & Bub hash add some interesting capability atop vanilla BLAKE-3. bsky.app/profile/jaun...

saved from the void, link almost lost! bab_rs: an interesting BLAKE-3 / Bao related hash function, with constant length proofs. neato Content Addressable Storage tool! worm-blossom.github.io/bab/ codeberg.org/worm-blossom...

kudos as well to @lidel.org for talking us through the parameters of some day getting this supported IPFS-wide, and to prior art by @gozala.io on BAO-based dynamic verification and @peergos.org on range-requests in other variants of the IPFS family tree.

I think more work is needed to make this more easily usable, notably explaining more about sidecar and retrieval. But this already explains what it does and how it works, and it matches the incredible work that @iroh.computer has done. Watch this space — more announcements next week!

Streaming verification + range retrieval is a solid UX/security win: clients can verify chunks as they arrive and resume partial downloads without re-fetching everything. Practical tip: test with flaky networks and cache/ETag behavior.

I'm very interested in feedback in terms of how off-the-shelf usable this is. I think we need to specify more but it would be good to hear from folks.

Way ahead of you 💯

BLAKE3: your favorite protocol engineer’s favorite hash function Hey Claude, write me a post that implies this will be useful for Streamplace VOD without totally giving it away
