F Brad while he waits for more government money to bail his rich ass out. Trump tariffs hit in his first term and the rich farmers got big bailout bucks out of it. Same plan this time but maybe not fast enough for poor Brad? He’d still vote for Trump. Pathetic.

Most people vote according to their values, not their financial interest. It sounds like Brad is giving us a pretext, not a real reason.

I've always said the only reason to vote for the loud and proud racist running a Nazi themed campaign was because he's a loud a proud racist running a Nazi themed campaign, and anyone saying otherwise is lying, even to themselves.

Brad doesn’t appear to be an infant or toddler, so by all respects, he’s had over a decade of evidence now showing that Trump is a habitual liar, manipulator, and abuser And Brad still voted for him, again Absolutely no sympathy whatsoever. You made your bed Brad, now lay in it

Hey Brad, was Trump the most pro farmer president when he was president in ‘16-‘20? Not even close. This was an open book test if this is your reasoning.

The warning fire was lit by the Dems and farmers like Brad bet on Trump instead of trusting a Democrat/black woman. Now they are literally reaping what they sowed. It’s sucks for him and his family.

So Brad is so racist/sexist that he chose to believe what a habitual liar/grifter/criminal said to him so he could internally justify not voting for the better person. Fuck Brad. Sending tots and pears.

'Trump said he would x' and 'trump promised to do y' so I voted for him. Yeah, BUT TRUMP LIES. He had a lifetime of lying before he ran for office. He always lied. He always will lie.

"Brad still supports Trump and doesn't regret his vote, he plans to continue voting/supporting the GOP". (Brad is one who would rather die than ever vote for a Democrat)

Good for Brad, hope he enjoys doing it working for minimum wage and going with out since there will be no social safety net. Or he can join the military, die for the regime.

The headline mentions voting for Trump but nowhere in the article did the reporters ask if Brad would consider voting for a Democrat in the midterms in response. Negligence! Probably because the reporters know the answer and the answer would reveal they are wasting our time with this article.

Spoiler alert: that is not, in fact, why Brad voted for Trump. He’s saying that now because, oops! But there is roughly zero percent chance that was “why” he voted for Trump.

i am sure you posted this as a lament but for many of us this a feel good story. if we have to choose between corporate farms and these turdwaffles, both are gonna be Maga-forward, but at least corporatism has some semblance of profit motive and thus can be motivated by self-preservation.

Zero sympathy. They voted for it. They knew what would happen. Their orange god-king does not care about them or anyone else. And, by the way, they are nothing but wealthy, massive land-owning 'welfare queens', because they were expecting to be 'taken care of'...again. Bye!

This is why Democratic voters are gravitating toward politicians who understand that Republicans voters are the problem: it is not our fault these farmers keep voting for the “to hell with farmers” party.

I don’t really understand how anyone could have possibly believed him. It just makes no sense. The man has an ability to grift some people, but I just don’t see how, he is like the worst most grotesque caricature of a con man soap villain without the sex appeal.

is this supposed to make us sympathetic to TACO voters? fucking cunt thought only the coloured people were going to get hurt under TACO. now he gets to shame his ancestors and sell the family farm by being a racist, dumb piece of shit. fuck him and any other fuckwit that thought like him.

Was he dead for tax purposes during Trump's first term, in which Trump launched an incoherent and later abandoned trade war that devastated America's agricultural exports and caused China to start serious efforts to build export farms around the world to replace us exports the next time it happened?

The US government eventually bailed out the farmers Trump had devastated - and Trump took credit for the payments, of course - but those payments only covered the lost sales during the trade war, at best. They couldn't compensate for the structural damage as China reduced its reliance on US farmers.

Dairy and beef farmers were already culling herds and selling their cows since 2020 due to high feed costs from drought. They barely got to recover.

Our area saw contracts for wheat exports to Asia that took the better part of 20 years to establish disappear during the first Trump term. Those same wheat farmers voted for Trump the second time. Self harm was a better option to them than a Black woman or anyone with a D behind their name.

The first trade war cost farmers $28 billion in emergency bailouts and ended with the other side buying less than the deal required. Now the tariffs are higher and fewer allies willing to coordinate. Same playbook, worse position.

He got exactly what he voted for. So much winning - he'd vote for him a third time. But I've never come across cows being chained up in stalls before.

Brad voted for trump because he is a racist idiot, and now hes sad because the racist idiot he voted for is doing the racist idiotic things he voted for him to do

you would think a fucking farmer would know that you reap what you sow. now he gets to reap the results of his vote. because evidently the farm bankruptcies in TACO's first term didn't apply to him.

Billionaires convinced you that they were on your side. Sorry Brad, the only people getting government handouts are millionaires and corporations.

Trump is a 34x felon conman, which is why Justice should have taken him out of the equation. Yes, farmers 'should know better'. We warned them. Propaganda like FOX, etc are an extreme part of the problem. Undermining people who believe in them, and him. They work together to exploit ALL Americans.

Yes. That would be ideal. I think we are going to have to be more creative in America, however. Given our flexible laws, 'freedoms'. There should be rules & guidelines for various accredited labels, so viewers can distinguish the quality of content.

Here I'd argue Mamdani is leading the way. He's making a point of having a strong media presence that demonstrates just how GOOD it feels to do GOOD things. He went after tax-dodging megawealthy fat-cats that buy property they don't use and made a video so EVERYONE can enjoy the fun.

Propaganda is insidious and profitable, but I can guarantee you that there's a bigger audience for "we dealt with this problem we all hate and boy does it feel good" than there is for "everything and everyone sucks, especially anyone going after megarich fat-cats." We just have to make that the norm

This is true. But the deeper problem is that the Co. case should have been part of a major National one. Many forget that Co. repeatedly stated they were moving on the CIVIL case and DOJ was NOT moving on criminal prosecution. And that's the core problem. Failure by design, or extreme incompetence.

My conspiracy theory is that centre-left, liberal institutionalist publications keep their more left-wing, less elite readership numbers healthy by throwing a bit of schadenfreude out every now and then.

Tough shit, Nazi. I sincerely hope that all Republican voters are dumpster diving for food before Trump’s term is up. Fuck every last one of them. To death.

Always room for stories about star spangled ding dings who should've known better and never any about Black voters who were the only constituency to massively vote against the Manchurian Cantaloupe and are now suffering under Deconstruction 2.0. Wonder white that is.

Damn, they got me fucked up if they think I care about this dumbass's farm even a little bit. If he voted for the moron who wanted to hurt minorities because he thought it would help his farm, then this is actually kismet. Try harder next time.

I can understand people rolling the dice on trump in 2016. Reasonable people can make bad-but-sane choices. By 2020, trumpers were voting for a guy that showed four years of failure and insanity. Very dumb. But people who voted for him in 2024? Fuck You. You deserve to lose your farm.

I want to feel like this is just an easy chance to draw contrast w GOP and help these people but it’s more likely that a Dem admin could provide real material benefits to them, bail them out, etc - and they still won’t be able to acknowledge it or credit them for doing it.

Brad evidently deluded enough to believe that despite oodles of evidence to the contrary Trump’s word still meant something.

The problem with Mr. Zak’s article is it’s fiction The real reason Brad voted for DJT is as basic Republican reasoning It’s okay to hurt me as long as you hurt ‘them’ more⤵️ bsky.app/profile/gree...

Great info for the Farmer Bailout push: ✔️Most small family farmers are millionaires; ❤️Republican Tax Cuts for the Rich ✔️Knew they’d be harmed but counted on a bailout ✔️2024 H2A reforms tossed by Republicans to make it easier for farmers to keep workers enslaved www.youtube.com/watch?v=badG...

Brad is lying. He voted for Trump because he shares Trump's bigotries and wanted to see others beat down beneath him. They all did.

They always think that about republican candidates, it rarely turns out to be true. Maybe there’s another reason they’re not saying out loud?

NYT runs a piece on a guy who lost his farm because we elected the wrong candidate—if they (and their ilk) covered Trump honestly would voters like Brad have been better informed and would T have lost? Would Brad still have his livelihood? Does that cross anyone’s mind at that paper?

There’s always Someone in the farm industry in crisis, and the lobbies make sure everyone knows it so they keep their subsidies. Feed prices high? Terrible for livestock farms. Feed prices too low? Terrible for the folk growing feed. They just focus the camera on whichever end of the market is down

What if we stopped wasting space and ink for these profiles that have been going on for 10 years and focus instead on the people who will be forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term because of the GOP?

Hey Brad, Sorry to hear about your misfortunes brought about by your own ignorance and gullibility. Anyway, I have this bridge over here that I need to sell off cheap. Sounds perfect for your situation.

Who would have thought that a guy who has spent his whole life lying about everything would have lied about this as well... 🤔

Brad screwed us all over and I don't feel sorry for him. I'm not required to offer empathy for his belligerent ignorance. Brad got exactly what he voted for. He just thought it would only happen to someone else and he was OK with that. Fuck Brad and everyone like him. With a cactus.

Fascinating article, in that it's all about the farm life (and toning down the "90+ cows" and "200+ acres" side of things) and losses that pushed him into selling. The Trump mention is almost a throwaway line. At no point does Brad say he might reconsider his political choices.

why should he? They try to paint a picture like they are doing a Grapes of Wrath and loading up the truck with a bunch of shoeless kids wearing potato sacks. But these guys are upper-mid class business owners. They're gonna walk away with a couple million in the bank.

Eh, dairy farming is not a lucrative agricultural practice, especially with a herd of that size. Small dairy farms have been dying for years and these conditions are just accelerating the family operations like his. The big money of farms comes from the ones with lots of high yield acres.

It's a story as old as the US itself. No mediocre white man whisperer will EVER convince them to do the right thing. They'll ALWAYS blame "others" for their own mediocrity, and they'll ALWAYS vote for people that will tell them that "others" are why their existences are mediocre.
