When the normal people I know hear about GTA 6 and start looking for a console to buy

McLuhans law of media tetrad: digital gaming *enhances* availability to play on any screen, it *obsolesces* physical games/consoles, it *retrieves* the method of early computing where users merely interacted with a larger mainframe via terminals, and *reverses* into pay to play coin arcades.

I think unfortunately this is going to result in a lot of people going into $1000 worth of Klarna (or whatever other short term loan app of their choice) debt over it. It’s the greatest game ever made after all…

I genuinely think the formula is kind of tired at this point given that half of AAA games copied the open world mission based formula for a solid 15 years. I’m sure to somebody who only plays GTA that’s fine but I feel like I’ve been playing the rockstar formula forever now.

This is one of those "but everyone knows that" moments when I'm forced to reckon with the possibility that everyone else is not, in fact, an Extremely Online Nerd. I hate those moments.

This reminds me of two... well whatever a "massima" would be in English, but basically: 1) every bad thing in the world is just politicians feeling bad about their dick size. 2) all of humanity has been shitting itself in rage that they couldn't invest in apple back in the 80s since... well, yeah.

I'm going sickos over this. Rockstar and Sony exhibit everything wrong with the game industry and the hatred and resentment brewing towards them is a balm to the spirit.

if you’re a normal guy with a job and you just buy the new rockstar game when it comes out you have been able to walk into a shop and walk out with a console and a disc close enough to release day, excepting maybe some shops selling out briefly with high demand

this has been true for 25 years. and it is now extremely not true and you would have no idea unless you’re paying attention to technology news lol

okay but in like 20 years when GTA 7 comes out and it's lampooning right now because that's when it was written those jokes are gonna hit maybe

when GTA 7 comes out, everything will be in "the cloud" and you'll be connecting to it from your chromebook or smartphone.

If the PS6 came out tomorrow at $900 MSRP it would be DOA even if it was better than the PS5 Pro. PS5 Pro pricing is dogshit. It doesn't even always outperform the PS5

I think it's kinda funny that I couldn't play Metal Gear Solid 4 or Dead Space 1, games that were on the Ps3, a console I couldn't afford back in the day, and now both are re-released on the Ps5, a console I can't afford now, brilliant sales strategy, bravo,

It feels like such a lucky ass thing that Resident Evil 4 remake was on PS4 at all, and I frankly have a hard time believing a lot of current releases couldn't just keep on running on the PS4 except that they want to sell PS5s and there's just barely enough rich FPS obsessed people to support that

Hah. I think the PS5 goes to around three grand in my currency (BRL), or three grand and a half. Probably more with these new prices

Might be the one good thing to come of GTA6 being such a load bearing pillar of gaming: It will accelerate public outcry to critical mass and force the industry to start actually having the affordability discussion in the mainstream.

many games can extract a thousand dollars from you but not many games can demand you pay a thousand dollars upfront to even play it
