I continue to believe that in times like these, we all share a collective duty NOT to splatter our demotivating feelings of doom and despair all over everybody else in public. I don’t care if it makes YOU feel better. This isn’t about YOU. Deal with those feelings outside of public venues.

anyway I’m going out to protest this weekend because we haven’t been beaten yet, and I suggest you do the same it’ll make you feel better than reading an endless stream of posts about how we’re all doomed and we might as well offer ourselves up to be processed into slurry for the MAGA AI mines now

I experience those feelings. I’m sure all of us do. There are ways to handle that that don’t involve contributing to demotivating and panic-inducing messages on social media.

And no, I’m not talking about *posting negative and depressing factual information.* That’s an essential and important task. I am talking about emotionally-charged public dooming. This does no one any good.

If you study the successful rebellions and resistance and civil rights movements of the past, you will note that “people who spend their time publicly bumming out everyone around them by emphasizing how totally fucked everything is” do not play a central role, or indeed, any role at all

My husband's family (2 adults and 4 children) survived the Holocaust because a member of the Dutch resistance found hiding places for all of them. She broke the law and risked her life. She is honored at Yad Vashem along with many other righteous gentiles. Would you do the same?

As a black person who is being erased by this administration I find it really hard not to be in a constant state of rage. The other side of me tries to find joy where I can. FYI I'd we dont fuck this shit up we are doomed.

Hard agree. We POC have a vastly different perspective. I'm glad the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & Cesar Chavez preached & practiced non-violence in their quests for civil rights, but rage is hard to brush aside when your bodies & lives are threatened literally.

Pick something to do that seems useful. --> Is it helping? ----> Yes! --> Keep doing it and ask others to join you! ----> No. --> Bummer. Pick something else and try again. Maybe ask your friends and other people you respect what they're doing and join them? Repeat as needed.
