Accounts (particularly huge ones like media orgs) should be able to set a "default feed" where, when you visit their profile, instead of seeing the reverse chron, gives you a feed they've created for their audience. This is a killer differentiator and @bsky.app needs to have built it a year ago.

1. Make Discover like For You 2. Improve feed UX (Both using and sharing) 3. Add more opportunities to discover feeds (anywhere from the new Discover feed showing you where it got a post or actual new items in feed generators that allow for cross promotion)

What does this mean for individual citizen journalists? Is it possible to tailor research into a particular topic? How ? Seems a good idea if it can be understood by layperson.

If I go to your homepage there's a long list of feeds. Are you saying that you want to pin one of them to the homepage? A media org can already create a set of feeds that are 1 click from the homepage, you want to pick one as the hero feed?

Not quite. The flow would be: You're the NYTimes - you have a diverse audience that comes to you for many reasons. Today, on Bluesky, when you, the dedicated reader, visit their profile page, you are presented with the "posts" tab - for large orgs particularly, this is all algorithmically determined

Products like Hootsuite "read the room" and determine the "optimal time" to post (or indeed create a new post of the same content) from the account. When you look at a profile page for a large media org, the result is pretty thematically disjointed. Additionally, orgs have no way to know who's there

Visiting/reading/engaging with them on their profile - it's just this vast dead space of traffic no team in social has really engaged with, ever. What I propose is an optional "default feed" - where an account can specify a feed of their own design to stand as the default lander on their profile.

It does many things at once: 1. A clear "show don't tell" of the entire pitch of ATProto, 2. Turns what has otherwise been a high traffic dead zone in social for 20 years into a space for rapid experimentation, 3. Creates incentives for becoming BSKy first (i.e. news rooms can sell direct),

Mostly covered here but point is a feed deployed on a high(er) traffic surface area like a profile is a much bigger swing for ownership (i.e. "you may be interested in this podcast we just started", "don't forget to sign up for our weekly email" etc interspersed by the newsroom)

This is a great idea. Should go one step further and just make the profile tabs fully customizable so everyone can pick which feeds show up. For most accounts, the videos tab is most useful for confirming they don't post many videos

No disrespect, since you've put a lot more thought into this than I have, but my reaction to this is "please do not do this". If I visit a feed, any feed, I want it in rev chron. A big media site could create a separate feed, say, "Today's top stories". Or could bump stories on their main feed. 1/2

2/2 Also, if it's a news org, and I wanted them to curate stories for me, why wouldn't I just go to their website? Or subscribe to one or more of their newsletters?

thanks for the suggestion, it's an interesting idea for sure โ€” though it adds complexity and comes with various design considerations we'd need to work through. i'll bubble it up again for the team to discuss.

i would absolutely love to have my default feed showcase the video projects and event highlights instead of my most recent posts there is a large creator market salivating for this feature

Would you build a feed for that, or do you just wanna change what your profile emphasizes?

Modest proposal At their discretion, accounts can choose to pin ONE of the standard tabs on their own profile. Putting that tab first signals what kind of account you are: posts (default) = normal media = photographer feeds = publisher lists = curator Feature whatever you're best at!

I've seen a few artists doing that: creating their own feed to showcase their art as they desire, and having a link for it in their pinned post sometimes or inside their bio Being able to really add it to their profile would be huge Similar to the portfolio tab you can do using Flashes

I remember some people making feeds back when I started using the site for things like all their art, or their most popular posts. Have to assume it'd come back in style with this change. Or at least people would use it for shitposting purposes.
