That is a particularly cool stencil tho. Mum had one of those for her OU course when I was little. I think I used it as much as her😂

I used a variety of drafting templates in high school, but I don't think I ever had my hands on a proper flowchart template. Flowcharting was kind of out-of-vogue when I was studying CS in uni.

I think I only knew how to read them back then because I saw them sometimes accompanying the source code in the computer magazines that I avidly consumed, as a child. (I was always doomed to go into Computer Science.)

I have one, not helix, and unused. Our Uni lecturer in Computing for Electronic Engineering despised them. We used step-wise refinement and Yourdon Case Tools instead.

There was an amazing period in high school computing in NSW (Australia) where you could take these into an exam. So students who had one had a huge advantage. They were eventually disallowed. Good times.

Haha! Indeed. I am just old enough to have caught the tail end of those and paper tape. I did my A levels on a PDP11 but we had terminal access. The college still had a handful of teletypes in operation to complement the VDU terminals.

Luckily I only had a 1 hour class that involved feeding punch cards to the operator's window. Next class required line editing on an LA120 Decwriter if I didn't get a CRT. First job involved an 11/70 (RSX-11M+) and the fancy amber (text) terminals. We've come a long way!

I went through 3 or 4 of these at college. When I was doing diagrams for my college final year project, I broke a couple - one in anger, one I stepped on. Drew dozens of SSADM diagrams which is a part of my life I'll never get back.

Not retired, still remember punchcards. 3 quarters of C.S. at Ohio State (waiting in line for IBM 029, then waiting for job completion) persuaded me to change major to E.E. ...tests take milliseconds... Oscopes, Logic analyzers, multimeters... Embedded all the way! :-) Still have the templates.

This brings back memories! I used to have one with the same layout but in green as a kid. Made entire cities with it!!

Haven't see one of those in a while! It would be difficult to form one now with the AI processing box symbol so topologically complex (kind of a mashup of Homer Simpson in impossible yoga position resembling a Möbius strip).
