Rep. Ryan Zinke: "Data centers have largely been demonized ... and where this this rhetoric emanating from? Largely from our adversaries that fear our development of AI."

Data Centres consume massive amounts of energy, which they force their neighbours to pay for, and water. They are massively polluting, and AI is not the societal boon that tech bros would have you believe. Rep Zinke should try listening to his constituents instead of his donors.

Zinke is lower in popularity than GOP Congress. He does zero work for Montana. Notice he doesn't mention "power" being price affected. They should be demonized, but no one mentioned "children" except Zinke. He is heavily invested in the companies that are building Data Centers.

Rep Ryan Zinke is an American adversary and in it for the money and power. This is the first he has made a public statement (even in Montana) for months, if not a year or more. He pushed the clearcutting of National Forests on the Continental divide that destroys the wildlife corridors to Canada.

data centers are fine if the local area has the resources to service them. this is a data center near where I live. you would never know it was one apart from there being few cars in the parking lot. data centers make websites like bluesky exist. issue is they are building too big, too fast.

i am more concerned with the power drain of idiotic and corrupt crypto mining operations. they hold no inherent value and are primarily a way for drug dealers to launder their money (or the Trump family) get rid of crypto, the data center bubble will burst on its own soon enough

I'm seeing more and more ads promoting AI and data centers. That tells me they are on the wrong side of humanity and are desperate to create a fantasy about how great they are.

The problem with AI and the need for data centers is-there are no regulations and zero transparency- society as whole needs the plans and ability to have a stake in any profits or benefits that may come from the technology- we all know the tech bros don’t care about taking jobs plus all the profits

Those adversaries being anyone not serving a fascist oligarchy that demands to control the world through mental manipulation, misinformation, and just plain human extermination. bsky.app/profile/atru...

The adversaries that this administration is courting every day? Like North Korea (just yesterday!) China, Russia? I hate that this blatant and appalling hypocrisy is never getting called out by anyone the press. It’s so infuriating!

It’s not we fear AI, we fear (and oppose) the mass consumption of resources and materials along with the massive pollution created by these projects

Dear democrats, please make a moratorium on data centers and tearing down flock cameras part of your official platform.

It really doesn’t take anything other than 500,000 water A DAY to make me question what could possibly be worth it. I see zero reason to rush this construction. We need better plans first. Better understanding of what advantages there would be. Making rich people richer is not a valid reason.

America's enemies have nothing to fear from our AI. Almost all of the bandwidth is being used to create images of Donald Trump giving George Washington a tour of his imaginary ballroom. What's left over is barely enough to put addresses on junk mail.

We have the intent and have heard the tech bros talk about replacing humans with robots, culling the planet of a large portion of the population, using women as incubators, implanting tech in people, and them using tech to live forever. Not to mention the destruction of land, and environment, and energy.

And of course the poor communities where these are built that have new horrific noise pollution, new water supply and water safety issues and even more dramaticly skyrocketing energy costs... with zero say or interest/benefit directly to them. Just that too...

The data centers to demonize are the hyper-scale ones built by Oracle'n'Nvidia for OpenAI, since they're wasteful and we know they're all destined for the auction block when OpenAI inevitably goes bankrupt. As for the data centers where we run Apache or Postfix, leave Linode and DigitalOcean alone!

you have to give me property but I'd let them build. there are 16 planned or active in Lehigh Valley: Upper Mount Bethel Palmer South Whitehall Upper Macungie Upper Saucon North Whitehall Lower Saucon Lowhill Bushkill Washington Plainfield Allentown Moore Upper Nazareth Lower Nazareth Chapman

Moloch has largely been demonized… and where does this rhetoric emanate from? Largely from our adversaries that hate the money Moloch will grant us.

My bigger concern is that these buildings will be built and then abandoned within a decade because that amount of space won't be needed any longer. They'll be just like all those abandoned Walmarts...eyesores that the taxpayers will have to pay to tear them down.

True or not, data centers have the appearance of billionaires coming into your town, buying off zoning boards, taking all the water & electricity & leaving you with increased bills & other unknowns. The narrative is perceived & believed by voters & no one is doing anything to combat that belief.

I doubt that...some people (those who are pro data centers) have one-way vision...others see the "big picture". "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction" Newton's 3rd Law of Motion.

I propose they build a HUGE data center in Jackson Hole, WY. YUGE. The biggest ever. If they're so great. YOU HOST THE FUCKING THING. With a giant coal fired power plant next door. There's good low sulfur thermal coal nearby in the Powder River Basin. Easy peasy. Done.

For supposedly super smart people, these AI guys are super dumb AI will come and take your job! Followed by: AI data centres will come take all your electricity and water! Leaving a low hum in your area Benefit? AI slop drowning out the last semblance of human interaction on social media

No. This is coming from Americans who don’t want to subsidize billionaires AI race with our land, water and electricity bills. If data centers are such a great deal, let them pay their full costs instead of getting decades of tax breaks while communities absorb the risks and damages.

Okay, Ryan. Where do you live so we can put a data center near you? How long before you try to sell your house and move? Would you stay and endure all the air, heat, noise, and environmental pollution it puts out with no tangible benefit to the people in the area?

The only "good" place for a data center is in the middle of an industrial area, away from schools and homes. Even then they need to PAY for the upgrade in infrastructure and use green energy.

If they are so great, why be so secretive and make county commissioners and township trustees and city councils sign NDAs and do everything behind closed doors? All this in an era where lying, cheating, stealing goes on in plain sight every day? 🤔
