i am inviting anyone from a legacy media organization to explain to me why the house judiciary dems report on trump’s epstein’s ties and multiple allegations of rape isn’t worthy of extensively reporting on. i’m serious. i want to understand.

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

"amplify your people" is 100% the best strategy

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Who excites you? I’m excited about Sherrod Brown recovering his seat as a progressive Senator in ”red“ Ohio. He’s far more progressive and inspiring than either of my NY Senators (somebody, anybody primary them, please)

The most salient analysis out of Brazil is to completely avoid amping right wing voices on social media to criticize or fight them. Instead, Amplify the candidates who need to win. Amplify the need for youth turnout. Forget the idiot billionaire fascists for the next 8 days.

The world doesn’t have to be so cynical. The future is unwritten. The world CAN be a different, more compassionate place. The key to not getting stuck in cynicism is to always make friends with the sadness and heartbreak underlying the negativity, without letting them run the show.

Lula's margin of victory went from 1.8 percent in 2022 to 3.6 percent yesterday. TURNOUT IS EVERYTHING. Please nag the young people in your life to vote this week.

I know absolutely nothing about Lula except that i saw someone share a clip on insta of him in celebration kissing a trans woman politician on the cheek and oh my god is that a radical act for a politician in 2026 so lets fucking go

So I don't want to oversell this but our 2024 EV percentage after day 2 was R+2.5. Right now it's D+17.7 So a 20 point swing in the largest suburban county in the country that had resisted some previous blue waves.

Meditate today, even for just five minutes. Self-compassion is the key to everything, and it starts by spending a few minutes working with your own mind.

Flávio Bolsonaro refuses to concede after losing Brazil's presidential runoff to Lula. "It is impossible to acknowledge the election results. We will ask for the elections to be annulled."

Meta deserves to die in every country. Also, elections have (positive) consequences.

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

Don't call it a comeback. He's been here for (80) years.

Taniel@taniel.bsky.social

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

Looking like a good day for democracy in the world. Let's keep this going November 3. Please remind all your people to vote early if they can.

Remember to vote WFP line in NY.

Brazil will get more attention either way it goes, but this is truly an incredible victory for the student protesters. We ran this in March 2025, which explained the movement's strengths but seemed overly optimist in the months that followed. 18 months later, they succeeded. Gen Z strikes again.

Replying to @rafiews.com

There is blatant voter suppression happening right now in Brazil: flights cancelled and buses suspended to Northeastern capitals where Lula holds the majority, polling stations changed to thousands of kms away last-minute, voters in London told they need to go to Edinburgh… This is criminal.

The best protest against a company is to stop buying what it sells. The best protest against a government is to vote every time you can.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

Reports coming in that, in the city of Salvador, a far-right politician - the actual mayor - has reduced the fleets of available buses so that Lula voters can't get to the polling stations.

Hearing report after report. Bolsonaro’s allies are doing everything they can to suppress the vote. It’s the engine of fascism in action.

If a...KANSAS democrat...can do this, why can't every democrat? It will be so telling if the red state democrats who didn't attack trans people do better than the ones who attacked them for no reason at all. May everyone be safe.

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

My unpopular opinion (at least in terms of people's choices) is that staying on Meta is even worse than staying on Twitter, which is also pretty damn bad.
