As inventive and innovative as America is, would be cool if we could figure out how to create a printer that reliably printed everytime you asked it too. Instead of this 50 percent chance something is wrong system we have now

I seriously just push button until it prints, and I curse a lot. Also, why can you only print like 5 pages before you need more ink cartridges?

HP was the worst - if none of those things was wrong, it would say 1 of the 5 ink cartridges was expired. All I wanted to do was print with black ink, so I bought a simple black printer from Brother. The toner cartridges are less expensive and last a couple years for me.

I've noticed that just unplugging my printer for several days fixes it. Until the next time I REALLY need to print something and it stops working again.

My school district's policy used to be to wait to order ink cartridges for our building printers until they ran out of ink, rather than keep any in stock. It's like it was a surprise for our administrators every time the ink ran out.

I've had my Brother HL 2360 for years and it prints every time from Win10, Win11 and Linux Mint. B&W laser wifi, duplex printing. I've also had my Canon inkjet MP 640 color inkjet for years and it works well 95% of the time, scans and copies...

After buying a new set of toners (generic, I'm not made of money) printer decided there was some sort of permanent paper jam, so its been moved to the exit lounge. At least I got to enjoy the rather dark 'end of life is near' toner message one last time!

The refillable ink cartridge has been around for decades. Someone in S. America invented it and HP bought the rights and buried it. That's why we pay $50+ for ink when in other countries that would be yearlong supply. I f*cking hate America!

Or the driver has somehow completely picked settings that are wrong for the document, or your expensive color printer just had to flush $5 of ink to switch from matte to glossy ink, or it prints single sided when you chose 2-sided, or for some reason it takes 1 minute for each pass of print head...

...that's why I switched to a laser printer years ago. My B&W one I bought 20 years ago still works every time I need it. My color laser printer is over 15 years old and also works every time I need it. Ink dispensers are a waste of time and money.

We have two printers - a brother color laser (yes toner costs more but it’s reliable) and an Epson EcoTank for my craft room. The ink is very reasonable for it. Who knows how long the printer will last. I print to it weekly when I’m not home to keep the ink jets working

You are out of cyan and all you want to do is print a black and white text document. I made the mistake of getting a scanner printer combo once and you couldn't scan if you were low on cyan.

There has to be/needs to be a study on how printer reliability has gone done over the last twenty years. My current HP requires arcane incantations, chanting, and animal sacrifice to even think about printing…

Get a brother coloured printer with the bigger toner cartridges. I can scan and photocopy too. After several issues with other types, someone recommended it, no issues in over 1 year. Not that expensive and toner lasts long.

Don't buy samsung/hp. Not wifi friendly & ZERO customer support. I bought mine specifically to be wifi friendly with all my samsung stuff (phones, tabs, tvs): NOPE! Not even friendly to my samaung laptop! Samsung: 😈 🔥 🤯

Printers in schools get heavy duty use. Teachers have to pray daily that the printer is working. At my school,,only the secretary could change the toner as if she didn't have enough to do 🤦🏽‍♀️

printer companies gotta make money. sell you piece of shit. breaks in 3 months. put in landfill and cost society and ecology. go buy another. repeat. printer companies gotta make money.

But 1000 years ago you'd have to wait a month while monks wrote it on parchment in calligraphy. In the Flintstones time you'd have to wait 2 months while a bird chipped it into a slab of rock. So all in perspective!

I have Brother brand laser printer for documents and Brother inkjet for photos and haven’t had a single one of those issues the years and years I’ve owned them. Best printer brand! You have to use inkjet every week or it dries out & you can connect it to apps that pre-order ink when levels are low

Everyone else has said it already, but I've had my same Brother brand laser printer for, no kidding, 14 years, and everything has been fine with it. Laser printer for black-and-white, and print shop or library for color copies.

I had a Brother laser printer from the mid 1990s that I stupidly left behind when I was moving about 5 years ago. I really regret it now. It still worked great but I needed to buy another $100 toner cartridge for it. Even though that was only the third toner cartridge replacement it needed.

Made the investment on a color/scanner all-in-one laser printer 7 years ago. Hope I am not jinxing myself, but I have never had an Ink problem (or toner).

Use lasers for random printing. Inkjets only work if you use them constantly. You get what you pay for. I only buy all in ones with feeders You scan print copy. I have inkjet as i use it daily. But for my freelance horse show office i use lasers as they sit all winter. HP is my brand of choice.

I gave up on printers. Now when I need to print I run into the FedEx office, print for .10 a page, and I’m out in minutes. Never have to buy printers, cables, paper, ink, download or install software, nothing.

Yeah, but, before I had a copier I did that at the end of every freelance day, but one day ran in to the kinko's & it was closing time (thus the run), they had lowered the door's metal gate a little and I ran into it with my forehead & decided then and there to buy a copier. "That's the tweet."

OMG the last printer I bought we couldn't even set it up without invoking a lot of swearing. No sooner did we get it set up then it said it was out of ink. We hadn't even printed more than 2 pages on it. So frustrating it ended up in our closet before being tossed out.

This is the way.....got a Brother laser printer 12 months ago to replace an HP ink jet, hard-wired and has been 100% problem free. Should've got one years ago.

I personally love every inkjet printer I've ever had. Use it frequently, do the head cleaning thing that wastes a ton of ink... Doesn't matter, within a year or two,Something goes wrong with the printheads.

Most of my fails are because the printer isn’t on, is empty of paper or jammed…for the last two cases there’s a 0% chance others didn’t notice this and leave it like that

My dot matrix from '85 worked like a champ and it was cheap to supply. Shame how difficult it is to simply buy and own a reliable home appliance without a subscription or planned obsolescence.

Mine seems to suddenly remember what to do at three in the morning and scare the crap out of me. Or, if I happen to sleep through that, I wake up to all five attempts to print blown out all over the floor

PSA Not just printers. Tech in general senses anxiety and fear since the the 70s, via pheromone sensors. They stop working at the worst time possible. I work in tech, can confirm. I read this on X so I know it's true. Invest in pencils. (nods safely)

I spent 2 hours today trying to fix a printer for a 76 year old lady who could remember exactly zero passwords so I was about 3 layers deep into "temporary passcodes" to try to get a stupid Microsoft account, only to find out that the damn thing was just broken. I hate printers.

It happens everytime your computer gets updates especially the security fixes. The printers must be enemies of the state...I'm sure DOGE will be right on it (lol).

I haven't had a printer for MONTHS because HP Help responded to me as if I were a technical wizard. I didn't understand 90% of their help instructions.

If it's just documents, get a Brother laser printer. They're practically bulletproof and run forever (I've used them to print out the patient referral faxes I get... and I get a lot of referrals!). Throw in re-manufactured toner cartridges to further reduce the cost of printing and you're all set!

My printer likes to act like everything's rosy until it just stops the cartridge (regardless of brand) about 3" from the center and says it's jammed. It's not, it's just stupid. I've decided I've spent my last dime on it. In the future, I'll go to the library if I need to print.

I don't know what your problem is, but I've been using Brother laser printers for years without any problems. Seriously. Ink jets are expensive, and I tried a color laser printer years ago but it had poor print quality, so I never bought another one. If you need color prints, go to Staples.

Not sure there's been a designed in US printer in decades, much less built in US. I've had no problems, but I've only bought B&W laser printers since they became cost-competitive. Always buy a spare toner cartridge at purchase.

The big printers in offices seem to have far far fewer issues compared to the models most people have at home and I can't explain why. I work in IT and the idea of a desktop printer that just works 99% of the time is about as real as bigfoot

Inkjets printers need to be used often to prevent clogging. We have been very happy with Epson Ecotank printers. No more cartridges to fuss with. For laser printers, Brother has been great for over the years.

I switched to a little laser jet printer. I think I’ve changed the toner once since I bought it. And it doesn’t seem to dry up like ink jet printers. Not an option if you do a lot of color printing though.

My folks got me a really fancy printer years ago that sat under my desk for rare moments I needed to print something. After one too many diagnostic checks, I sort of went all Office Space on it. Now I have a really cheap printer that took the lesson to heart and prints on demand.

I feel like things aren’t going to get better soon considering the likely brain drain we’ll experience under the incoming administration.

This reminds me of a phrase when I was growing up — “if we can go to the moon, why can’t we…?” Now it will likely be, “if we can make huge leaps with AI, why can’t I print something without getting an error message?” :)

Have a basic HP black&white (laser though) at home. F@@@ng hate it. Always connection issues, paper gets drawn in a tad bit off even though the guides are thight. A nightmare. Tried a lot of printers. Canon and Brother are the ones that usually just work
