This is amazing and fantastic news

NEW: The Grand Illusion Cinema lives! The single-screen movie house that'd been in Seattle’s University District for more than 50 years before closing in January 2025 is coming home. It will be now taking over at the Varsity Theatre 📽️ My story @seattletimes.com: www.seattletimes.com/entertainmen...

hi guess what they will not relinquish power and will only become more violent and repressive to assert dominance.

Since 2020, Trump and his allies have been hinting that they might send federal forces to “protect” polling places. If that happens, what can cities, states, and communities do to protect their citizens and fair elections?

They appear to have disabled the "Name is wrong" function in Apple Maps, at least as it pertains to Lake Ontario. Talk about craven. #AppleSucksNow Downloaded MapQuest app yesterday, but might just go back to my roots with paper maps and directions hand scrawled on napkins.

hi, everything is still getting worse. #shutitdown #takeitback

A Texas tattoo artist has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for moving a box of political pamphlets and zines featuring “anti-government and anti-Trump sentiments,” prompting outrage from First Amendment advocates.

This is in Seattle and recommended because Vermillion is a treasure and Jeff's paintings are best seen IRL. ...And who knows what else he might pull out of his beard?

My Seattle exhibition Past and Present at Vermillion Gallery includes new and previous works. Join us for the opening July 9th, 2026, 5-9pm on the Capitol Hill neighborhood art walk.

holy shit, i'm on a gen x'er text thread where people share pictures of their cats and yesterday someone posted ai slop "they made" and asked others to do the same and i almost lost my mind. what the fuck is wrong with people? but this made me feel better: www.bloodinthemachine.com/p/they-just-...

bloodinthemachine.comThey just formed the biggest tech worker union in the US. They plan to rein in AI and curb layoffs"Who AI benefits and who it immiserates often is based on who gets to decide how it’s used. We know how tech is used on the day to day. We should be at the table as well."

it's mostly just a defiant gesture with minimal practical impact (probably), but what it really brought home to me is how resource intensive ai is. i can render HD video on my laptop in the blink of an eye, but converting this single static image took about 2 hours. no wonder those chips run so hot.

but, really, i'm just a caveman and all this is above my pay grade. my 30 years of online content has already been scraped raw and i see no point in going through this process every time i upload an image, so i deleted the app. but what do you think? and please correct me if i got something wrong.

if you don't think things are getting worse, that's just normalization at work #shutitdownshutitdownshutitdownshutitdown

"ai" is a trap. don't fall for it.

this graduation speech moment is notable, and her amazed shock at having failed to read the room feels instructive. when you're inside the bubble, you think everybody else is. but everybody isn't.

What a cool idea! Keep the pressure! @redactedreadingroom put all 3.5 million pages of the Epstein files bound together in 3,437 volumes of books, on display in a new exhibit in Tribeca. David Garrett, one of the organizers, says the goal is to push for the release of all of the files. #Pinks
