On Saturday, 7 November, I will be running a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon around the theme of Byzantine women & genderqueer saints. I hope that this workshop will help to improve the coverage of women and LGBTQ+ history on Wikipedia.

As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.
Alright Leeds, fancy some long-form improv on Friday evening?
She Says are bringing their tried and tested Improv Buffet formula to The Attic, this Friday 4th September.
Come see us!

What horseshit. She embraced gay people at the height of the AIDS crisis, embraced trans people at the height of the war against them, supported Black communities and artists, and wrote the most pro-worker's rights feminist pop song of all time. Neutral my ass
"At a time when no American celebrity seems immune from the country’s many divisions, Dolly Parton was a crossover icon who stayed neutral in the culture wars while still speaking her mind," writes Zachary B. Wolf. | Analysis
One of the driest summers on record, and almost none of it is in the free, permanent public record. If you're in an affected part of England or Wales, upload your photos to Wikimedia Commons and help us complete the record 👇
Further evidence of how urgently the UK needs anti-SLAPP laws.
If our governments were as interested in freedom of speech as they claim to be, they would have done that already.
But all the evidence suggests that it is only right-wing speech that our governments (blue or red) actually care about.
In fifteen years, the UK has deleted coal power from their power system, halved fossil gas use, replaced most of that with wind and solar, and the country has not suffered the hellish blackout apocalypse conservatives and media outlets promised would happen.

Did you know 72 names are inscribed on the Eiffel Tower and not one belongs to a woman? The Eiffel Women campaign, led by our own Ceryl and Dr Lucy R. Hinnie is making sure the 72 women proposed for the tower shine on Wikipedia. It wraps up at Wikimania this month... join the final push!
If rumours are to be believed I'll be living with a seventh different Prime Minister shortly. If it carries on like this I'm going to stop making the effort to learn their names.
Hoping this directive by Staffordshire County Council isn't something we'll see in York libraries @rachaelmaskell.bsky.social - our library system is brilliant and such a welcoming and safe space for locals and visitors.
I did some basic boilerplate text here (tinyurl.com/5xa7xnjw) if anyone is not sure how to start this kind of email. Feel free to edit, improve, change, alter. You can find your local library's contact details through an online search.
If you are based in the UK, please do consider writing an email to your local library about how important LGBTQ+ books, and representation is. There are several councils in the UK suggesting that books should be banned and that LGBTQ+ books are harmful. This must be challenged at all costs.

🏳️⚧️ Thank you to every one of the 98 members of Parliament who have put their name on record against the EHRC’s unjust and unworkable guidance.
Motions to annul or disapprove don’t often get this big, especially when led by backbenchers. This sends a clear message ❤️

🚨 NEW: 27 Members of Parliament have signed a motion to reject the EHRC Code of Practice

This has always been the biggest issue with this place; not that we're in a bubble but that we've elevated a bunch of thought leaders who aren't actually experts while shunning or brigading actual experts
Cameron Park Zoo in Waco TX has a new black-footed cat kitten (Felis nigripes). It's exploring grass for the 1st time here.
This species is the smallest wild cat in Africa, but with the highest hunting success (~60%).
They eat 1/6th their body weight in rodents & birds every night.
On the one-year anniversary of EMPIRE OF AI, I am so, so excited to announce The AI Resist List, a new project that documents examples of resistance to the AI empires around the world 😍

Can you help? Do you have a story to share?
I'm part of a team working the National HIV Story Trust and Amgueddfa Cymru collecting oral histories around experiences of HIV and AIDS in Wales.

"Open scholarship is not a luxury. It is a necessity for equity and progress. Bridging the opens means recognizing that open access, open education, open pedagogy, and open science are not separate silos; they are deeply interconnected. When one is strengthened, the others grow stronger too" #KEOS26
Contemplating rejoining just to vote against Wes F*cking Streeting. He's a dangerous piece of trash. If you care even a jot about the queer folx in your life, keep him out. Absolute self-serving sycophantic snake.
The only thing that will be achieved by Starmer resigning is another three months of null government while careerists fight for advancement, and the hospitals and schools and roads rot around us, and a load more angry people persuade themselves that the main parties are a joke so why not vote fash.
Imagine a feed that isn't driven by algorithms.
Wikipedia's Recent additions page lists new and expanded articles by date, not by your data. It's built by volunteers for discovery.
This month we’re spotlighting Dr Lucy R. Hinnie, Wikimedia & Open Knowledge Adviser at Open Research Leeds.
Lucy supports researchers and students to share their expertise openly on Wikimedia, a great example of how universities can strengthen knowledge equity!
Thank you Lucy for all your work 🙌

One of the reasons why Elon Musk and other folks on the right want to shut down Wikipedia (or "compete" with it). It's a good platform for regular folks to accumulate data, even keep track of all of this administration's atrocities in real time. Great work
Decent image of Eleanor Rykener's court record now up on Wikimedia Commons, with CC BY 4.0 license. Use with wild abandon for talks, seminars, all the good queer & trans history stuff

More thoughts on Eleanor Rykener in the BL's #MedievalWomen exhibition.
Her inclusion is majorly important, not just because of *her* importance as a beacon of trans visibility in the historical record, but also the current anti-trans environment in the UK & elsewhere
This seems like a maliciously put headline to make people feel a certain way.
Wikipedia is not partaking in generative AI. They are making AI companies and scrappers having to pay for training their modules off wikipedia texts. And having an AI (not that ai) tasked with updating dead links.
Just days into 2026, the killing of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has sparked protests around the US.
If you’re planning to protest, here’s how to safeguard your digital security.
When people ask what my job is, I often say 'Wikipedia' but in reality it's more wide-ranging now than ever: here's a little blog post about what Topics for Impact could look like in 2026 and what I've been up to lately.
