Hi. Some of us predicted this very thing might happen. www.techdirt.com/2025/05/27/w...

Because four of the Justices have book contracts with a party's corporate parent, the Supreme Court LACKS A QUORUM to hear BMG v. Vetter, and one of the worst copyright decisions in recent memory is affirmed by default. It's just one bad look after another. www.supremecourt.gov/docket/docke...

SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books. Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:

the two-way protected bike lane on Folsom is *finally* going in and I would like to salute the enthusiasm of the contactors putting in the temporary bike stencils omfg the bike helmet

A remarkable transition. Better infrastructure has to be about creating better environment that encourages public life. Far beyond how we get from A to B—it will affect how we meet, where we spend our time, and the whole social fabric that is woven together by those simple but fundamental actions.

Three years ago tomorrow, I very nervously gave this speech. I knew my career as a TV journalist was dunzo, cooked, filleted, kaput the morning I wrote it. (Thanks to Kat insisting I go for it anyway.) The end is awfully prescient at this exact second, though. Big ups to Scott Pelley for fighting.

A lot of our problems right now can be attributed to mistaking what one has been given by society as what one has contributed to it. Fame, wealth, and other achievements may be duly earned, but they are still at best indirect and imperfect proxies for what one actually provides and produces.

WTF Cornell, the students deserve so much better than this POS who clearly isn’t an educator.

🚨 THIS JUST IN: With over 100 protests still to come, we can already estimate that at least 8 million people participated in No Kings protests today. That makes No Kings 3 the largest single day of protest in American history. #NoKings

According to documents filed this morning by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of NY, ICE has been lying for a year — not only to the public, but to the courts and to prosecutors — about being authorized to make arrests at 26 Federal Plaza and other immigration courts. (1/2)

ICE observers in Minnesota are skeptical about the White House's claims of a federal drawdown. But they have noticed in recent weeks a shift from aggressive street sweeps in Minneapolis to instead target people in the suburbs or quietly waiting in unmarked vehicles of residential areas.

Big crowd starting to gather for the first day of SFUSD teachers’ strike in front of city hall earlier today. Judging by all the honking, many other residents are enthusiastically supportive.

Day 3 and I finally made to the picket line in time for the march. Clapping, fist-thumping, and much-a-honking from all kinds of neighbors. Nobody ever said what the teachers ask for is unreasonable. In a city proud for its creativity, let’s find a way to give the educators what they need.

Rep. Delia Ramirez to DHS officials: "I have as much respect for you as I do for the last white men who put on masks to terrorize communities of color. I have no respect for the inheritors of the Klanhood and the slave patrol. Those activities were criminal and so are yours."

Some think it’s UESF’s fault that SFUSD schools are closed, or they should negotiate while keeping school open. This is BS. Strike is the only real threat that the educators have against the district which has most of the power and controls comms. You cannot have a fair fight with your hands tied.

It’s time to wake up - we are literally on the verge of losing our democracy if Donald Trump cheats his way to those seats in Texas.

Secret ICE police are terrifying people, undermining trust in law enforcement & creating a tinderbox where people don’t know whether the person grabbing them is law enforcement or some vigilante. It has to stop. We’re advancing legislation to ban this liquor-store-robbery-style masking by agents.

The saga of the NYT's anti-Mamdani story taken from notorious white supremacist Jordan Lasker (they call him an "academic") gets even more amazing: Lasker's only impactful paper, which claimed white people are smarter, is infamous: it misused data so badly it got his tenured co-author fired. 2/

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Today's Supreme Court decision does not opine on the constitutionality of Trump's assault on birthright citizenship. It is limited to the question of universal injunctions. But its ruling on that front is MASSIVE—a huge blow to plaintiffs and judges trying to block Trump's most lawless policies.

Every one of those DHS goons, from Noem on down, should be investigated for malicious arrest and abuse of power. The Trump administration is going down the list of abuses that the Founders laid out in the Declaration of Independence one by one. Soon, they'll be quartering troops in private homes.
