As someone who strongly believes that time changes are the least worst way to deal with the seasonal tilt of Earth on its axis, this is the best defense of not changing what we do

This is thrilling and didn't happen by accident. In 2023 we ended 30 minute waits on nights and weekends, and ever since, BART weekend ridership has been climbing, faster than weekday ridership. I championed this change for two years before staff made it happen, and it's worked as we had hoped.

Ian Griffiths@icgee.bsky.social

Happy Monday! More promising Bay Area transit ridership news - Oct 2026 BART weekend ridership was 97.2% of pre-pandemic levels (vs Oct 2019) - and Sunday ridership is now above 2019 levels at 102.9%! My math below - check for yourself at www.bart.gov/news/article...

Atlanta Hawks ownership/management is very determined to make clear that there's a hierarchy and the women aren't at the top of it

BREAKING: Game 6 of the WNBA Finals will be held Thursday at 12:30pm ET at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, sources told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. It will be a double-header with the Atlanta Hawks’ game, which will be moved to 8pm.

it doesn't make sense that the WNBA and NBA made sure the WNBA Finals is played in NBA arenas if they're going to play weekday matinee games

MattY might have a point of regular people on social media rooting for other political parties like neutrals watching the World Series, but it pales compared to the rooting interests that other governments and multinational companies have. We should care as much as they care.

Dan Mauler 🎃@meelar.bsky.social

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

the one thing I will say in contrast to how the pile on has gone this morning, is that by saying this on Twitter, Yggy may be referring less to the Bluesky libs happy that Lula won and more to the chuds who are mad and calling for a coup/military invasion?

The massive growth in Las Vegas unaffordability is a caution that you can't sprawl your way to affordability. Seems like the affordability benefits of growth are increasingly tapped out, while more and more people are trapped in a low wage market

This is Vancouver's very first proposal to build a low-rise, multi-unit residential building on a small single-family lot under the new single-staircase building rules. A 6-storey, wood-frame building with 24 family-sized units. #vanre #vanpoli dailyhive.com/vancouver/21...

Billionaires throw a fit at the idea of an annual wealth tax... but literally everyone else already pays one via property taxes (either directly as a homeowner or secondarily as a renter). The only reason securities aren't taxed the same is because that's where the rich keep most of their wealth.

YIMBYism is working, it’s just obscured in the topline numbers by the single-family collapse. The California Building Industry Association went all-in on sprawl and insurers had to step in as the adults in the room and say no more wildfire risk, leaving YIMBYs to fix things with no help from CBIA.

Buffy Wicks@buffywicks.bsky.social

Well, look at that. California is seeing a big increase in multifamily housing permits. We passed historic CEQA reforms w/AB 130 to make it easier to build housing & now we’re seeing momentum. There’s still lots of work to do, but this is an encouraging sign. www.ocregister.com/2026/10/08/c...

Borrowing against a stock holding should be a taxable event.

Larry Ellison went on a borrowing spree to help pay for his son's Warner Bros. bid, using shares in Oracle, Tesla and SpaceX as collateral. The move highlights how billionaires often employ a strategy called “buy, borrow and die” to retain their wealth without selling assets.

I was always for AES, but this sucks and I moreover appreciate the way she's calling out the scam donations and PACs here too. One of the first Dem electeds to do this??? I think with the highest national profile so far? If she can improve that stance on Gaza I'd welcome her running for more stuff.

boy is this kind of ideology common in this country. FAR more prevalent than any kind of working-class identity. it's why voters in 2022-24 took the first seriously full employment in 20+ years completely for granted, but threw a shit fit over inflation that was partly caused by labor shortage

Put another way, a lot of people are now WFH that didn't used to be able to, and that's a good thing (for them). But the effects of that on mass transit in the Bay has been huge transit deficits. And if RTM fails, it will be the workers who CAN'T WFH who will suffer most. So don't be an asshole!

WFH is why BART is running a deficit. But: "If you are WFH (or even part-time WFH) and you vote no on this measure, you are engaged in an intra-class war against the workers who make your life comfortable": www.oaklandreviewofbooks.org/voting-guide...
