Had a great time at @xoruby.com Montreal yesterday! Good presentations and conversations, and when I got home I still got to read my son a bedtime story 😄 (he was doing his best to delay things 🙈)

Venue criterion: There must be 10 lunch restaurant options within a 10 minute walk. Our Montréal venue went a step further with a food hall on the first floor.

Marc-André Cournoyer about how AI has boosted his creativity over the past year after 35 years of writing software. Specifically, building hardware projects.

Each of our events starts out with small group work and a facilitated conversation. Things we learned about our attendees today: * An attendee leveraged family to copy programs out of a book. * An attendee started sewing in the pandemic and made her coat. * We are grieving loss w/AI while learning

“Ideas Worth Stealing” by David Cornu is our first talk at XO Ruby Montréal

I've been talking and dreaming for a while about putting on a Ruby conference here in Orlando. Before I get too deep into that, I'd like to get an idea of who else might be interested in attending such a conference here.

And here it is! Event-sourced, server-rendered, async, nested state machines in Ruby!

Ismael Celis@ismaelcelis.com

Good progress implementing state charts on top of my async event-sourcing runtime. This is going to be awesome.

“WHAT'S YOUR MOST INTERESTING RECENT EXPERIMENT?” A multi-language compiler called temper, vibe-cooking, and lots of experimenting on people (mostly kids/parents).

Is the tech debt metaphor still useful? This conversation drove toward a consensus that the metaphor is still applicable but it’s meaning is shifting. We wound up talking securitization, financial literacy, and more.

Hard agree! Taking some time talk to other people in-person or online is a great antidote.

Talking with folks at a coffee shop before @xoruby.com about how experienced developers have never had more free time. I suggested it would be incredibly helpful to early career folks to get their questions to folks who could help them. Ahmed Nadar said “So … you want to re-create Stack Overflow?”
