Okay, the cover isn't attached yet, but Programming Ruby 4.0 now has an Amazon Pre-Order for the physical book, which is winding its way through production.

New blog post / newsletter, continuing the When Books Could Code series, specifically continuing the discussion of Extreme Programming Explained, this time covering the original 12 practices and what happened to them…
Both these updates are largely incorporating a review from @kakutani.com and the team working on the Japanese translation of the book, and I wanted to thank them for their work. You can buy the new edition of Programming Ruby at pragprog.com/titles/ruby6...
My Robot Year. The underserved genre of LLM takes… as I come up on a full year of working with Claude. Prototypes vs finished products, exponential complexity, and Conway's Law with robots. Actually finished this because I was afraid the world would change three more times if I waited.
Well, I for one did not know that a theater here in Chicago is going to be adapting Becky Chambers' "A Psalm for the Wild-Built"... lifelinetheatre.com/performances...
Just noting this blog post about the Gang of Four design patterns book for those of you who might be watching @pragdave.bsky.social at #rubyconf

A few new things on the website: I gave a talk at Chicago Ruby about what happened after I asked my local robot to review code with "what would Sandi Metz do?". Not quite what I expected…
After spending way, way too much time over-editing it, part one of my next essay on programming books, on Extreme Programming Explained by Kent Beck, is now up. Audio version coming… soon: noelrappin.com/2026/06/when...
A couple of new blog shaped things: I've decided to start doing the book posts monthly (so shorter but more frequent), here's January: noelrappin.com/2026/05/janu... February: noelrappin.com/2026/06/febr...
Also, mostly for fun, I did an audio reading of the Design Patterns book post, you can get it here: noelrappin.com/2026/04/when... I like doing the audio readings, I hope somebody finds this interesting.

My talk is tentatively titled "Inspector Gadget: Adventures in Agent Code Review", and it launches from the weirdness of asking an LLM "what would <a Ruby Luminary> do?"

OK, so the paper version of Eloquent Ruby is off to production. That means it's a couple of months away from making an appearance. It also means I'm done, with a capital "Ahhh." pragprog.com/titles/eruby...

You should all absolutely read my post on the Gang of Four _Design Patterns_ book and it's impact: noelrappin.com/2026/04/when... And... entry two in this series is going to be XP Explained, a book that legitimately changed my life.. I have opinions, this one is going long

Hey -- there's a Chime listing on my exact team. This is a remote job for US/Canada applicants. careers.chime.com/en/jobs/8414... It's doing a lot of the work I do on our Ruby code, but focused on our Python teams. Happy to answer questions about this here or via DM.

While I'm here, a bunch of changes at the website: * Genuine RSS where you would expect it: localhost:4000/rss.xml * Restored audio files, show notes, and transcripts for the best of Tech Done Right (noelrappin.com/audio/) * Generally better layout, individual pages for videos and podcasts.
