Bit chaotic. Into art, design, coding, music, and nerding. Too many interests and trying to practice them all at once. Proud owner of one husband and three dogs. #ruby #crystal #elixir

Finished assembling the das_POD CD player. Found the LD DVD-ROM for €5 on a second hand site, it was practically unused and still in its original box :D I haven't been able to try it yet because I was stupid enough not to order the power brick. But one is on the way.

I loved the attention to detail though :). Here's the backside of the control buttons, the part that you'll never see again after assembly.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

I regret to inform everyone that our dog escaped our property last night, broke in to our neighbours' house, and ate their dinner. I'm conducting an internal investigation to figure out how this happened, which will involve eating the rest of our neighbours' pantry until his motives become apparent.

"I’m unsure how we can turn things around. But it seems clear that the answer to having too little humanness on the Web isn’t to have less of it and shut down our websites. [..] If you run a personal website, don’t get discouraged, keep it up. And if you don’t run a website, then why not start one?"

Websites Are Not Going to Die: AI search feels like a threat to the open Web, but the future of the Web does not depend on select large players.

fuck sam altman forever for taking away the last places where we could engage in good faith: the creative arts, which should be a testament to human ingenuity. i am so mad that everything i read or listen to or admire is now tainted with doubt. do you understand? he is a thief of joy and i HATE HIM

The increasing number of LLM Bots (aka "AI Agents") creating PRs on GitHub is worrying. They are taking away time from open-source maintainers who are already time-strapped. But what's the best strategy to fight them? Block and report? Or demand endlessly complex tweaks to exhaust their resources?

Replying to @meredithmeredith.bsky.social

Engaging in mental gymnastics to justify what's convenient but unevidenced, unjust but personally beneficial, 'rewires your neural map' in ways that degrade your overall ability to understand and analyze the world around you, which is a precondition for intelligence and creativity.

Every Layout is a reference I use daily. Complete CSS was a great level-up. Mindful Design is priceless. Andy's work, and by extension the Piccalilli team, delivers knowledge that will be with you for the rest of your life, not just until the next framework appears. I can't recommend it enough.

A bit of a vulnerable post by me but we need your help to get us through what has been a more difficult period than 2020. It would be really appreciated if you could read and share in your networks too 💛 bell.bz/its-been-a-v...

spending over a decade getting pretty good at doing "generative things" only to land in the decade of generative slop is ... not ideal

Just in from #Adobe: “Your Creative Cloud Pro subscription will increase from €29.99 to €65.54 starting next month.” Just so they can push more AI crap on us I suppose? That's insane! Happy to finally pull the plug there.

Just released Rosetta v1.0.0, an #i18n shard for #CrystalLang, about four years after its inception. Aside from a some QoL improvements it now also supports key nesting, a feature that was on the wishlist for a very long time. github.com/wout/rosetta

Worrying to see that so much of our internet, including critical infrastructure, is dependent on AWS. I get that cloud services are easier to maintain for global projects, but this level of concentration risk isn't healthy.

PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

If DDOS attacks are illegal, AI crawler spamming should be too. They’re wearing down the most useful parts of the web in their quest to produce the least useful.

Inigo Quilez@iquilezles.bsky.social

Yeah, we only had 1 week of break between AI crawler attacks. This one is even hungrier than the last one.

I've got a 19-year history with Ruby on Rails but in less than two weeks my view on the framework has completely changed. Working with it just feels icky right now. A great time to embrace newer, more inclusive alternatives like @hanamirb.org and @luckyframework.org. I'm already enjoying the change.
