Here's my compilation of things I heard for the first time in 2025 in a vague drone/post/punk mode here - with links to videos and Bandcamp (and with some wittering) one by one below (tomorrow as I have been busy today) 🧵

O the joy in imagining being offended at how little I was paying, Spanish owned, Scottish Power! I would love to be badly photoshopping Achewood but alas

Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth. Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

St. Olaf's managing to look so many types of spooky

Andrew Krueger@akpix.bsky.social

Seeing photos/reports that the weathered, twisted tower of the derelict St. Olaf Church near Tioga in western North Dakota finally toppled a few weeks ago. It’s amazing it held on as long as it did. Glad I made it back out there for these photos earlier this year

I don't disagree with a word I say in here but the Peel Session version of Winter at 1:32 when the drums come in and he says "The mad kid walked left side south side" is what I would have said for many a year

The most obvious one possible but 2:59 into the live version of Totally Wired on A Part of America Therein the MES has just "My heart and I agree" and the guitar comes back in - this is the most transcendent moment, the apex of 20th century music: this is why we're doing human society

Long term I can see there might be problems with my method for fixing my mood (exhaustion and great music) given the often chemical ravages inflicted on my body achieving the exhaustion so the great music can hit just right but it's been working great for the first 50 years

These are very good photos but we might want to be a bit cautious before mixing Burroughs and headshots

Robert@robertd1.bsky.social

I'm not saying William Burroughs should be a role model for anyone - but I am saying why don't we see more author's headshots like this anymore.

Walking into the storm, the sky a bruise, barely able to push against the wind I felt my little troubles getting blown off me like wet leaves on a bonnet when you reach the motorway, then I knew what to do: hunched over the MP3 player I found it, hit play and I knew what the answer was anew

The purpose of music is to let you completely escape from your worries, your thoughts, your body, everything. No music has ever done that, for me at least, like The Fall and they never did it more perfectly than at that moment

Journalist Vivien Goldman played The Clash’s POLICE AND THIEVES for Marley and Lee Scratch Perry, the dub genius who produced the original. Marley immediately felt an affinity. “Punks are outcasts from society” he said. “So are the Rastas. So they are bound to defend what we defend".

I woke up feeling all wrong this morning, a lyric of a similar vintage "when what used to excite you does not, like you've used up all your allowance of experience" bouncing about my head and went through the motions but in a low grade funk, achy, a clicky shoulder, enervated, hopes being foreclosed

I knew I had to do something to get my head out of this and so I took a walk along the canal to Tollcross listening to a thing about Spiritual Jazz and how it's greatest exemplar, Alice Coltrane, stopped doing that and made Ecstatic music, music not to soothe but but to shake us into transfiguration

I can't believe the violence of the periphery is returning to MY imperial core !

The bold move would be to call a campaign of non payment for the BBC licence fee - it's the kind of radicalism Scottish Nationalism hasn't really done this century and it's very hard to imagine the Swinney's SNP anything but The Party of Moderate Progress Within the Bounds of the Law

Neil Mackay@neilmackay.bsky.social

After the death of BBC Scotland, there’s only one possible course of action: the SNP must demand that broadcasting powers be devolved from Westminster to Holyrood. This country has been deliberately failed by London. So we need to take broadcasting into our own hands In @heraldscotland.bsky.social

From @kamack.bsky.social’s article: a mock epitaph on Lord Strathure (the judge who sentenced John Maclean to five years in Peterhead jail) written by John S. Clarke, “a poet, a journalist, a politician and a lion tamer” who once cured Lenin’s dog

When I was a teenager if I wanted to hear a Fall album from *seven* years previously I needed to send away to New Zealand and wait 3 months to get it, a kid today can listen to almost anything they at the click of a button. Oh yeah we eliminated cervical cancer too
