Apparently Tribe has renamed itself the “School of Movement Arts” and I have to wonder: did someone get through to them about the name being racist, or were there finally enough allegations and labor violations that the brand was ruined?

The math doesn’t add up for Baltimore’s housing market. If you had $7k to spend each month on housing, why would you not just buy a $400k house and pay it off in ten years?

Melissa Schober@melissaschober.bsky.social

FOUR to SEVEN THOUSAND dollars for rent in Baltimore? The only folks renting will be looking for some tax shelter or investment weirdness. And $550 a night for a hotel room? Per diems aren't going to cover that and we have no enormous fancy convention center to host deep pocketed folks.

This is the most important day of the year for the Light Rail and the state still can’t do it right. @govwesmoore.bsky.social, why won’t you budget money to hire enough drivers?

MTA Maryland Service Alerts@mtamarylandalerts.bsky.social

Light Rail is currently experiencing service delays due to staff availability. A shuttle bus is in place operating between North Avenue and Penn Station. We anticipate delays will continue for the remainder of the day. We... https://mta.maryland.gov/service-alerts/29101

The other week I yelled “you have a stop sign!” at a driver who was rolling through a stop sign and about to hit me. Her response was “sorry, I didn’t see you”. You don’t get to roll through stop signs even when no one’s there!

What a smug asshole.

Republican Rep. Andy Harris incorrectly told a reporter they were breaking the law as the reporter and others recorded an exchange with him last night. Harris had just wrapped up a debate with Democratic challenger Dan Schwartz.

Once again and despite his best efforts, Trump manages help the climate in a way no Democrat would ever be allowed to.

(Politico ) - The Trump administration is preparing a plan to ban exports of diesel for 90 days, despite splits inside the administration and with the oil industry, in a bid to bring down energy prices .. @politico.com #ExportBan ⛽️ www.politico.com/news/2026/09...

You should be embarrassed to publish this op-ed that doesn’t mention legalizing ADUs is required by state law

Is the Baltimore City Council about to eliminate single-family zoning? tinyurl.com/325wkudv A bill backed by Councilman @electryandorsey.bsky.social – scheduled for a committee vote on Thursday – is little known, but would have a big impact on city neighborhoods [OP-ED]

It’s symbolically incoherent. The Statue of Liberty holds a torch as a symbol of enlightenment. It’s not a weapon, and she’s not going into battle. Why would she hold a shield?

alan-a.bsky.social@alan-a.bsky.social

WTF is this? Is it Liberty? Is it an angel or goddess? Is it hodgepodge? Was it design by AI? Some whacked out design company came up with it. Not an artist. Did Trump tell them what? Without approval, the would be king is starting the Arch with is offensive thing. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/03/u...

The thing that Disney and other corporations have recently done where they say spouses are ineligible for benefits if they are offered any benefits at their own job seems like its pulling out a load bearing element from the system's popular support.

Look, some of us were quiet and gangly and merely okay at cross country

My (solid blue state) teachers couldn’t handle being normal about the pledge of allegiance, there’s no way they could handle teaching the bible. We still managed to understand the scarlet letter without it.

Similarly, people talking about surveillance should have to specify whether they mean that the government shouldn’t know what they’re doing if they’re not breaking reasonable laws (agreed) or that the government shouldn’t know what they’re doing even when they’re breaking reasonable laws (cmon, man)

Also I think that anyone who’s weighing in against speed cameras should have to say whether they think speeding is okay. I respect the people who want to end speeding without cameras; I don’t respect the people who have latched onto arguing about cameras as a way to get away with speeding.

We should be asking serious questions, like “If rural conservatives like America so much, how come they want to live so far away from Americans?”

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

i, on the other hand, can freely speak the truth: anyone who does not live in a major metropolitan area is disgusting.

I think at the presidential debates they should ask each candidate what one pet peeve they would fix via executive fiat. Mine would be directing the NWS to change the names for “watch” and “warning” to “likely” and “observed”.

Beano Railroad@burgersub.bsky.social

The "crabcake watch/crabcake warning" thing is cute I guess, but it does not actually help one remember the difference. Crabcake, tornado, rabid beavers, it's not doing jack shit as a mnemonic device to decode watch vs. warning.

Rallied, did a bunch of meal prep, and somehow despite my best efforts got habanero and/or ghost pepper juice on my fingers

I hadn’t looked at the guide NJ requires e-bikers to read until now, but it turns out it contains both lies (“e-bikes aren’t designed to carry passengers”) and genuinely dangerous advice (“ride on the right so that people can pass you more easily”)

Streetsblog NYC@nyc.streetsblog.org

Council Speaker Julie Menin wants Albany to pass its own version of New Jersey’s flawed, one-size-fits-all e-bike registration law. nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/08/04/c...

I’ve been thinking about AR glasses and I have to wonder what percentage of the people involved have bad vision. If I had AR glasses and they glitched or showed me something that wasn’t there, my only option would be to take them off and stop being able to see.

If the companies making them mostly have people who can see without glasses, maybe that trade-off doesn’t seem like such a big deal. But for me, I’d lose all sorts of things—reading signs, doing my job without fucking up my neck, riding a bike, recognizing friends.

You see this all the time when bike party rolls around. “How come they don’t ride in the bike lane” “How come they don’t ride in the park” “How come they don’t stop at traffic lights” “How come they don’t let me pass them” I promise you, none of you would be happier if we did those things.

Obviously part of it is just that bike party is on some level a protest, but a version of it where 300 people ride single-file in the Maryland Avenue cycle track is a version that takes twelve hours and slows down twice as many cars

Quote posting this to bring attention to a very important Baltimore issue: if the sidewalk is smaller than 8 feet wide, we should get to put our trash/recycling bins in the street It’s very annoying that the sidewalk is unusable for a full two days a week

Now this is the kind of trash talk we can get behind. We’re containerizing neighborhoods by taking trash off our sidewalks and allowing mid-size buildings to trade in their wheelie bins for a bigger, better, cleaner alternative: Empire Bins. It’s time to put a lid on it, New York.

Would love to see an ad campaign showing people getting into crashes because they’re trying to drive faster to make up time. The tagline would be “It’s okay to be late. You’ll live.”

Someday I would love to know why the Maryland subreddit is full of gun nuts Is it reddit’s vestigial libertarian streak? A coincidental critical mass? I don’t know, but those people sure do love their guns
