70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Plaster those "100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes!" blurbs on every piece of marketing you can find and bump those numbers up even more, let's make this HAPPEN.

LAIKA’s ‘Wildwood’ is tracking a $15-20M domestic box office debut after a skyrocket of pre-sale tickets. This will potentially make LAIKA’s biggest opening weekend ever. (Source: @GlobalBoxOffice on X)

AI is a scourge. But it is important not to trust "AI detectors". I lost regular freelancing work because my client insisted I used AI to write copy (I didn't, but their AI detecting software said I did). This is a great thread with an excellent example of why these detectors cannot be trusted.

AI RANT Following the cancellation of three major debut book deals over AI suspicions, I decided to put my own (needless to say, 100% human-written) prose to the test. My detector of choice was Originality AI, and the results proved to be jarring, to say the least. 🧵1/5

Dolly Parton was a friend to science, literacy, and the queer community when not many else dared. If you’re looking for a way to remember her, consider donating to her Imagination Library, which has provided over 330 million books for children internationally. imaginationlibrary.com

These people will never shut the fuck up and make something worthwhile with their stupid slop machines but they will endlessly whine and whine and whine and whine about not getting credit for being able to pull the arm on a slot machine. Simply not enough scorn heaped upon them yet.

In defence of AI slop: we should embrace open access to creativity, not condemn it Look past the Donald Trump superhero memes and the new software gives us the chance to democratise creative production. No wonder art’s cultural gatekeepers are worried ✍️ Jack Riley https://bit.ly/3SpzFQ4

Because they can be. Because they know society is unwilling to do the only thing that would hurt them, which is to disengage entirely from every system that openly exists off the pain and suffering of millions of people. But we won't. We love convenience, entertainment, and numbing our own pain.

Another Exciting Adventure in American Fascism

I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

This country was one person's vote away this morning from putting any birthright citizen in danger of being deported tomorrow. We are so much closer to the abyss than we think. Man oh man.

I’m not going to hail Barrett and Roberts for allowing us to count our votes. It’s a huge win for democracy, but it shouldn’t have even been a question. That we were one vote away from disenfranchising votes is all the more reason to expand the court in 2029.

Zines are now a federal crime in the United States. They are setting precedent to go after anyone they want for writing or reading anything they don't like.

Unicorn Riot@unicornriot.bsky.social

Daniel "Des" Rolando Sanchez Estrada wasn’t even at the protest — his wife was — but prosecutors are pressuring him into giving up his permanent resident status because he allegedly moved a box of zines the day after. Now that he’s going to trial, he’s looking at decades behind bars and deportation.

⚠️ WARNING: ICE abducted a pet owner, leaving two dogs to starve for a week. Only the landlord saved them. This isn't a mistake; it’s a sickening pattern. When agencies treat people as disposable, innocent lives become collateral. This cruelty must end.

The problem here is all of these people know they're in a race against the clock to get all of this done before the tide turns. And by "all of this," I basically mean the destruction of anything that could criticize the post-Constitutional technofeudalist society they're hastily trying to stand up.

I'm sure most of you know about this bastard thing already but I'd missed it. Just in case you have also been living under a rock here's some info about Microsoft using AI in Windows 11 and how to turn it off (because, of course, it's on by default).

You know, differing ideas and opinions will always be a thing and should always be a thing, but whenever some website, company, or individual defends generative AI in any way whatsoever, I immediately don't trust them and want them to shut up. Stop acting like we're helpless unless AI protects us.

America, you have spoken loud and clear: You do not like AI. But what if AI is the way to restart the world’s idea machine?

I'll admit what is or isn't an "indie" game is tricky. You can have a solo dev get picked up by a big publisher or you can have an actual independent studio staffed by industry veterans. But I'm sick of this idea that "indie" has to mean "low-budget" or that they have to LOOK a certain way.

I'm sick and goddamn tired of evil people claiming they're the only good ones because they have to have a book to tell them right from wrong, and since good people don't need such a book, they're evil. I'm sick and tired of hate filled thugs being upheld as beacons of virtue and decency. I'm tired.
