incredible news: Sunshine Skies' David Henderson came in clutch with the single Hammons installationphoto from the commemorative book the city published about the artworks. he spotted the book on ebay last year and, having remembered and liked the art from way back when, decided to buy it.

gregorg@greg.org

HOLY MOLEY this is exactly what it was, like the Untitled (Flight Fantasy) sold in 2024, amazing thank you

he's scanning and uploading the full book, what a legend. unfortunately there's only a single photo of each escalator bay, but we'll take what we can get.

getting into fights on the internet over........ freedom of panorama exceptions..........

no u can't monetize pictures of copyrighted sculptures on view in public in the uk for a temporary show. that's not how this works.

11h

works have to be permanent to be eligible for the exception. "what does permanent even mean" don't piss me off.

if any other museums want to unload one of these, i'm willing to take on the burden.

second museum-owned morris louis stripe painting to go on sale at sotheby's in the last year. who is making these decisions!!!! first the phillips sold one and now mfa boston. www.sothebys.com/en/buy/aucti...

wait i missed the other one the mfa is parting with :,( i don't have 1.2-1.8 million but i would love it so much more than they ever could in a freeport storage rack www.sothebys.com/en/buy/aucti...

to be extra fair to the mfa, they do own a shit ton of louis paintings

would it be a kindness to use the contact form on the morris louis catalogue raisonné website to alert MICA of the now-incorrect collection listings, or would i just be adding to an inbox that will never be checked again

as much as i hate how most estates behave, this does kinda feel like a consequence of his estate being owned by MICA, an institution that i'm sure does not have the resources to keep him relevant and stave off museum deaccessions. (it's also been like 20 years since the estate was given to them, so)

if i get one more spam text asking me to share my opinion on "America's relationship to Israel".............

east coast privilege is real, i got a 6pm meeting invite and i have never felt so affronted. how dare you ask this of me.

lol thank fucking god. lula <3

has anyone been to the mint museum in north carolina / did you see this sam gilliam commission before it was taken down? and like, these *for sure* faded in what must be glaring sun, right? no way their deinstallation isn't conservation related.

thank you Sunshine Skies for compiling the vintage Atlanta photos I found this in (www.sunshineskies.com/inside-midfi...) and thank you @greg.org for giving me another fun puzzle to solve (greg.org/archive/2024...)

in the course of trying to solve my own "Atlanta Airport 1980 artist installations" mystery last night, i have inadvertently solved someone else's. i present to you a blurry photo of the lost David Hammons sculpture, 'Flight Fantasies', on view in Concourse C in 1980 shortly after opening!

i did also solve my own mystery. Sam Gilliam's dropcloth drape painting 'Delta Wave', as seen in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

newspapers dot com access is something i will never take for granted lol

new "is that canonical artwork even copyrightable" question: dan flavin's monuments to tatlin. someone appears to think it's a no! (i did not upload these, as likely as that seems) commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:%2... commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:%2... commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:%2...

under today's regime, i'd say no these would probably be rejected for several reasons (including threshold issues as it's really just simple geometry). and i'd hazard a guess that formalities were not followed here. still, that's not what zwirner and the flavin estate want you to think.

nothing like overhearing "have you heard of rothko? no? the big paintings of colored squares and rectangles?" to snap you back to reality as you exit the show focused in part on rothko.

this is no insult to the rothko-unaware or the rothko-averse. sometimes i really do need a slap in the face and you are capable of providing it!

showbiz411.comControversial "Musk" Documentary Pulled From Almost Every One of 472 Theaters After One Week by Newly Sold Bleecker Street Films - Showbiz411Alex Gibney's "Musk" movie is pretty much gone. Released October 9th to four theaters, it expanded to 472 last Friday. And now, one week later it's gone

at a certain point there just won't be any media left to get captured by an elite.

i dislike florida too much to go there rn but i do want to see how the bass is handling the whole "destroy this" angle here

tho i guess we won't really know until they "deinstall", will we

i like to think when i find a newspaper/magazine from pre-1989 that didn't follow copyright formality or registration requirements, the ghosts of that company's legal department are looking over my shoulder, shaking in anger as i start mining the paper for useful photos.

no ©? i'll be there. you can bet i'll be there.

it's not even just ghosts. i would love to meet the person who currently handles licensing and copyright for the baltimore sun. they *must* know that their archive is mostly public domain, right? or do they just not care because no one bothers to check and just believes retroactive claims?

plumbing work happening in the apartment above me. full renovation in the apartment next to me. road work outside my window. just strike me down at this point.

toad is that u (milton avery, 'untitled (lazy afternoon)', 1930s, at the phillips)

i'm full of jokes but this show is quite good. makes a very compelling case for the developmental synchronicities and stylistic conversation between avery, gottlieb, and rothko. not like an A+ perfect exhibition but very interesting.
