Microsoft's digital crimes unit said it would pursue security researchers who "irresponsibly" disclose 0day. But it's simple: Redmond can't dictate what researchers do with bugs. If you can't entice hackers to disclose bugs via your preferred channels, that's a you problem! (aka skill issue)

"Why are people so negative about the economy?" Consider this. There are two possibilities: 1) He's right and my livelihood is screwed. Maybe not 18 months but soon. 2) He's full of shit, it won't happen, and AI is a giant bubble that will crash the economy. Why would I feel good about either?

Recent status: watching someone that works at Zoom take a past due security training about not taking meetings in public spaces while he was on a train going between Copenhagen and Stockholm. He completed his training then had a sales meeting about volume discounts.

Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Another day of reminding everyone of Carl Sagan’s eerily accurate warning about the dangers of not being able to ask skeptical scientific questions to those in power or authority.

So, I know I'm very late to the party here - but just finished watching SquidGame S1. That was a wild ride! The twist in the last episode was a bit of a shock.. I look forward to watching S2 in 2027 😂😂

I absolutely love @xkcd.com's concept of the "lucky 10000" and I feel lucky both every time I get to introduce someone to something neat and when someone does the same for me. Comic at: xkcd.com/1053/

if you know a lot of stuff i think it is your moral duty to be kind and excited when people learn stuff for the first time. the world is full of stuff we don't know about, don't be mean

The overwhelming feeling I had from all of this was just one of awe. What an amazing incredible time to be alive in human history. A time in which heart surgery on an infant is not just _possible_ but incredibly safe and utterly routine. 8/

Tonight is Spaghetti night for this week. This time, I dialed the wine quality back a notch. Still pretty good wine though!

Been at the local brewery for a few hours with some friends.. Food truck wasn't open, so.. Get home and think a vindaloo is in order. It's delicious, but I'm being punished by it 😂

Alt: A photo of a beautiful sandy light-straw yellow beach with lightly lapping waves in a light blue, transitioning to a deep and dark blue ocean half way up the image. The top half is a light blue, cloudless sky.

Ok, my next camping trip is booked! 3 days of nothing but books, beer and bbq! So, in that stead, plz recommend me (kindle) books! Sci-fi preferred, no 1984/dystopian etc (read it). Have Necromancer lined up already, and some crime novels which I was really getting into!

Have read The Rho Agenda trilogy, Project Hail Mary (absolutely loved it), and some others. Hit me with suggestions :)

Protip. On iOS, long-press on share, then copy link, generates a link without the tracking code. Has been that way for years, just confirmed as still working.

Jason Kikta@kikta.net

If you share a link from X, the value after ?t= is used to track who shared the link So if you are a reporter and not trimming that off, you are essentially helping Elon Musk build a social graph of your sources Usually anything from the first ? onwards in a link are unnecessary parameters anyway
