People like the idea of a competent police force so they just kinda pretend the existing police is that and then get mad when people don't share that delusion

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.

Canada's boycott of California wine is causing devastating harm to winegrowers. I'm urging the Canadian government to recognize that California doesn’t agree with these tariff wars, to lift these restrictions, and increase consumer options to strengthen both our economies.

The problem is that “I am often scared and angry about social change” does not inherently lend itself to interesting art. You can be as technically skilled as the greats, but art with nothing interesting to say is just a commodity.

The chance of someone saying this and actually doing anything about their listed atrocities is basically zero. They don't care about hypocracy they want the reader to shut up and do nothing

i think, end of the day, the real problem with Bluesky is that most of its users are here *because* they want to be in a bubble. and they can tell themselves that it’s just about not being around Nazis it supporting Musk, and that’s part of it, but also there’s a palpable desire to be ensconced.

I don't even think this is 'crunchy low trust lib' (though it may have been passed around by some), it's more that before the mid-10s, the 'conspiracy' world was a lot more nonpartisan and heterogenerous, so a lot of right-wing shit flew under the radar en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_D...

Bush-era crunchy low trust lib memes having tons of anti semitic dog whistles is like how they foreshadow the next villain at the end of marvel movies

American journalists are some of the most spineless people alive and, honestly, it's hard to feel we're going to miss anything from mainstream media being dismantled if this is the level of adversarialism that can be mustered against a President that would kill journalists if he could do that

huntnewsnu.comBostonians brave bitter cold to demand immigration enforcement reform in 'ICE Out Everywhere' protestProtesters’ breath was visible in the frigid air as they packed the plaza in front of the Massachusetts State House, transforming the snow-covered square into a sea of signs and chants. Nearly 1,000 Boston residents braved 10-degree temperatures to attend the “ICE Out Everywhere” protest Jan. 31. The demonstration was prompted by the killing of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse shot by federal agents in Minneapolis, Minn. Jan. 24. Pretti was the second U.S. citizen killed by federal agents within the first weeks of 2026, following the fatal shooting of Renée Good by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, officers Jan. 7. Both deaths occurred during Operation Metro Surge, a federal immigration enforcement operation widely criticized by elected officials and civil rights groups for aggressive tactics. Boston activist organizations quickly mobilized for the Jan. 31 demonstration. According to the Mass 50501 event page, the rally demanded that Gov. Maura Healey and state legislators cut all ties with ICE and protect immigrant communities. Massachusetts maintains limited cooperation with ICE through a single 287(g) agreement with the state Department of Correction, established in 2007. Two days before the protest, Jan. 29, Gov. Healey signed an executive order prohibiting the state from...

Sometimes very hard not to feel like the rest of the country has abandoned Minnesota. We STILL have ICE everywhere. Our schools, businesses, and economy are in profound crisis. But without Bovino here throwing tear gas, much of the country seems to not care at all what’s being done to us.
