Hilariously tone deaf. Pretty much expected of Unity at this point.

The video advertising Unity's ew AI-driven autocomplete game maker has 'Mari' who has a game idea they "always wanted to make" and that idea is "Space Corridor" and it looks like this, and that's the strongest argument I can think of for keeping game dev out of the pro-AI crowd's hands.

Cheers to Unions & congratulations to the workers @ Wizards!

The Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering teams at Wizards of the Coast have just announced they're unionizing. In a letter of demands, the union has urged Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast leaders to stop pushing generative AI. https://bit.ly/4hMhPzG

Coding is an artform too!! Just because it's not something you can immediately look at and absorb doesn't devalue it as a work of art. Allowing generative tools for scripting marks the process as tedious and meaningless, when in reality, it is integral. I wish this was treated the same as others...

Concepts and Portals!!! This week I yap about the early phases of taking ideas and translating those to actual game mechanics. Then I yammer about the evolution of concepts so far in this game about a hungry dragon!! πŸ“πŸ‰ Read it here: www.patreon.com/violetdraked... #dlf #gamedev #indiedev

I'm incredibly delighted to report that sewing is just 3D modeling in reverse: In 3D I make an object, unwrap it to flat shapes. In sewing I make flat shapes and wrap them into an object. I have home-turf advantage with this hobby.

AHHHHHHHHHH Sorry I have been addicted to my favorite drug: systems design then making the little silly listener scripts and wires that connect everything together cutely

This week on my Patreon blog, I share some early development on a small game I've been working on collaboratively with @cryptidbits.bsky.social! I share some context behind how this game started alongside discussion regarding early prototyping. πŸ‰ Read it here: www.patreon.com/violetdraked...

Today on my Patreon blog, I talk about procedural visualization for more types of items in CUBED! Along with that, I share the direction I plan to take these items in future iterations! Read it here: www.patreon.com/violetdraked... #cubed #indiedev #gamedev πŸ‰

New post up on my Patreon! I yammer about the data structures & procedural visual setup behind cubes, along with what I've learned from previous design patterns. πŸ‰ #cubed #indiedev #gamedev

It's been a nice week of tool creation so far. Setting up data in modular ways has felt really rewarding. Eventually, I'll be at a point where I can make and implement a ton of visuals and vfx each day.

Been getting into such deep development now, so while conversing with some folks I've done a number of revisits to CUBED!'s early days. I never really thought I'd start being nostalgic about my own game - guess two years is quite long. I'm a very different designer now. #cubed #indiedev #gamedev

feels really nice being in a headspace where i can clean house so much. organization is fun preparing for the presence of increasingly intricate tiles & fun visuals :> (new, old)

for alt text folks, these are two images of scriptable objects in unity. the first contains more fields than the other. i dont want to describe my new layout as "better" or "more organized," so i will just simply say it makes me feel happier.

πŸ“ŒVery temporary pinned post. I'm Liz, Violet Drake is my studio. I'm a gamedev of 8 or so years, huge art lover and systems designer. πŸ‰ I'm making a game called CUBED! It's a grid-builder roguelite about rolling cubes, constructing shapes, and overcoming challenges of your own design.

I have been developing CUBED! for close to two years now. I am attempting to walk the full pipeline myself. I simply wish for this game to be holdable in your hands. Check out my media for some very old posts, pictures and prototype footage. New shares will resume in a handful of months. 🧊

Tackling a refactor of my codebase to a scale that I have never worked with before. I have this entirely different concept of how Cubed operates in my mind, and it's nothing like how the game is currently structured. I never really experienced such an extreme difference of knowledge to what I have..

..actually built. Very much a situation where I feel I will be scripting for weeks to months, and then bugfixing for many more weeks. Ideally I land at something beautiful

My intent is to, hopefully sometime in late Summer, enter a period where I can have something visually interesting to share here every now and then. Cubed is far from done, but it's actually transitioning into this point where it's shedding its prototype skin, and beginning to look beautiful.

Oh yes, hi. I am going to try discussing here a tad more. Just sharing some idle thoughts. If you are interested in my development, feel free to reply, ask questions, anything really I will do my best to answer. I don't want to be secretive.

I am breaking free of the longest period of burnout I've faced in quite some time. Many people in my life have aided me, given me trust and faith, and believed in me even when I felt as though I had absolutely nothing to offer. Art is difficult, indie is difficult, but I'm still here. πŸ‰

Let's do this right, shall we? Last month, I showed off #CUBED at #MDEV25! I got to witness faces of confusion become faces of engrossment... probably over 100 times. Once it clicked, it REALLY clicked.

I'm very proud to have given people their first taste of CUBED! - whether it be on a PC, a Raspberry Pi, or a Steam Deck. There was one question I kept getting asked over and over again: "Where can I buy it?!" This was the one question I couldn't answer, and I needed time to figure that all out.

After MDEV, I took my first extended break in a very long time, one that lasted a bit over a month. And now I'm diving right back in, all with the goal of getting CUBED! ready to be released into the wild. So, here I go again. Back to the gamedev dungeon I call "my desk."
