The Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering teams at Wizards of the Coast have just announced they're unionizing. In a letter of demands, the union has urged Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast leaders to stop pushing generative AI. https://bit.ly/4hMhPzG

Anyone willing to bet the CEO is trying to contact this administration or someone like Bezos to try and get “revenge”? Hasbro management seem like the type to hold grudges against fans AND employees.

They have cut wotc's staff to the bare minimum because Chris Cox thinks ai is going to be the content farm of the future, and everyone has just been clamoring for AI dungeon masters. I refuse to believe he plays d&d much less several games with large amounts of players.

Yes yes yes yes yessss! Maybe we can finally tone down the insane rate Magic sets release and actually get some time to enjoy each set the team works so hard to craft for us before the next things gets pushed out the door!

I've seen some rumblings the higher ups are licking their lips over the idea and also the odd one has slipped through the cracks. There's definitely something going on with the art for Toph, Hardheaded Teacher and that artist is a known slop pusher.

Same! The best part of MTG is the art from real artists! Give me a vanilla 1/1 for 10G with some sick art! I'll use that for sure! Lol.

As far as I recall, the specific wording of the statement they made on it when it first came out struck me as really odd - something like, specifically, "we will not use generative AI in ~final products~" or something like that. Which I can't help but think, leaves it open for in-development...

I suppose so, considering they haven't put out a decent standard set since Ikoria. The fact that I can struggle to name five cards that aren't lands that made an impact in any format from the last five years of standard is very telling of the quality of cards.

Weird to get replies arguing pointing out things missing from reporting is felicitating AI or that pointing at a flaw in one company's reporting is bootlicking yet another company. IGN (owned by Ziff Davis) is no more your friend than Wizards (owned by Hasbro). 🙄

"Currently, if an employee makes anything creative in their free time, with their own resources, Hasbro may claim ownership.” What?!!
