In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump have lost surprise elections thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

Britons should use money we haven't got to buy food the country doesn't grow, store it in homes that don't exist, in spare rooms that got taxed away, so we can survive when reservoirs nobody built run dry because of a climate the govt won't protect. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

A state failure that had devastating human consequences. Yet no-one has been held responsible from the PM Johnson down. This is one reason why people continue to be suspicious & resentful of the British state

I don't know how many lines have to be crossed before the remaining democratic West realises this fucking maniac cannot be permitted the power he's accumulated. We have Musk. Or we have established international security norms. We can't have both.

Holy shit. Up against some truly world class competition, The Telegraph has just come up with its worst EVER headline. TL:DR - No. But *please* click.

Trump has imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court, and while his kids "negotiate" a Ukrainian peace deal, he's paying Putin to breach sanctions. Hegseth is live-streaming an execution by firing squad, and gave the UFC a binding contract to train the US military in hand to hand combat.

The BBC could save a fortune if it gave up its obsession with 'celebrities'. It could then concentrate on what it does best, instead of this process of enshittification by a thousand cuts. #BBC BBC News - BBC to cut raft of Radio 4 programmes including You and Yours www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Y’all are acting like you’ve never seen an octogenarian drug addict who spent decades attacking little girls w/his BFF Jeffrey Epstein while laundering money for Russian mob ask Iran to nuke LA & San Diego to help MAGA midterms while a bunch of cornhusk crackers cheered before?

If some bad things are an acceptable price for AI’s progress, OpenAI can dig into its deep pockets to pay that price itself – for instance if its agents go rogue and do damage to government or private company systems,. It can’t, and shouldn’t, get the financial upside when everything goes right

Of *course* the ‘AI boom’ will make us poorer. It’s a ‘boom’ created by tech bros for tech bros, and they’re pretty much the worst human beings on the planet. How could it possibly do anything else?

Just tax the compute. Datacentre? Cool. Fund your own power generation and water reservoirs, and then pay tax for every computational act your datacentre does. And we'll use the tax income to offset societal and job damage. Overnight, AI becomes something AI giants are desperate to restrict.

How is it free? Because the absence of tax and overheads allows a vast investor bubble, which will burst and cause a financial crisis like 2008, when we haven't even recovered from that yet. You think the far right came from nowhere? No, it came from a financial crisis. Which we are still in.

It only feels “radically progressive” because we’ve spent 40 years normalising radically regressive ideas. This was broadly how Britain worked from 1945–79, when average GDP growth was 2.6% a year — compared with 1.9% in the post-Thatcher years. It works www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

If people don't want to pay tax to make this country function and help out the rest of society and particularly those who need help most... then maybe they should move to Dubai and stop bleating about it. Really sick to death of it.

The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.

Two months ago Trump gave a primetime address claiming China attacked US elections. Yesterday, he flew their flag on top of the Oval Office. If like me, you worked on a TV show w Trump when he rented an entire floor of Trump Tower to China’s largest bank, you won’t be surprised.
