Turnover at a glance: Nunziata –> Padovani Perks –> Chan McNally Saxe –> Layton Moise –> Stikuts Fletcher –> Ehrhardt Bradford –> Erskine-Smith Myers –> Chen Other than the loss of Myers, this is going to be a pretty strong Council for Chow.

If anything comes of this, it may well be the most impactful policy of Carney's entire tenure as PM. Few things could be more transformative for the constitutional order than a new law to supplant the Indian Act as the basis for the relationship between the Canadian government and the First Nations.

Mark Carney on abolishing the Indian Act: "I'm committed to a process that moves Canada beyond the Indian Act."

[looking back at the Finch West debacle] omg we truly *are* world class

New Taipei's new elevated Sanying Line – opened in June 2026 – is somehow insanely bad - Extremely tight curves everywhere (10 km/h!) - Goes just 20 km/h before, during and after even the gentler curves - Overcrowded 2-car trains that run only every 8 mins (mid-day) - Overbuilt stations

Previously: Growing up in Scarborough, Eric Bauza was a prankster, a wisecracker. He didn’t just watch all the Saturday morning cartoon shows; he would go to the library to research all the voice actors and animators, his brother said.

Aw man I didn't know he was Canadian, too

Canadian voice actor Eric Bauza, who in recent years embodied Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, has died at 46. “He will always be a legend but I’m devastated that I’ll never be able to give him a hug, or hear him joke or see him smile again,” wrote fellow voice actor Josh Keaton.

I am, for my cohort, extremely pessimistic about list-PR electoral formats and the Knesset (and the Netherlands, to a lesser extent) have always been my examples why. This gets into a lot of the issues with the Knesset's specific flavour of PR

This is a good primer on Israel's political situation going into tomorrow's election. But I'd like to go deeper on something he only touches on, which is that part of the reason for Israel's electoral doldrums (and resulting geopolitical chaos) is its broken political system bsky.app/profile/avis...

In the end, I reject any electoral reform that replaces direct-election of representatives with lists. Because if MPs serve a party but not a constituency, you get things like this, and the following post (you still have floor-crossers despite no direct constituencies!)

As a result, the Knesset has become completely unanswerable to voters. Staffed, on the one hand, with members who will blindly vote with their party head, and on the other hand, with members who believe their seat is theirs by right despite no one having actually voted for them.

University hiring for someone to research why rail projects take so long to build, call that a ten-year track position

This is how we win

marine corps boards crossing out their instructions "expel trans marines" and writing in "we keep this trans marine" is, frankly, a great example of what it means that a society is more than just its government

NEW from me: Last year, Mark Carney set a goal to double Canada's non-US exports by 2035. Today, he's already halfway there In response to Trump's tariffs & threats, Canadian businesses, consumers, & even tourists are taking difficult steps to decouple from the US🧵 www.apricitas.io/p/how-canada...
