Just a reminder Parker & the separatists stole our voting data And NOTHING is happening There's no outrage from Smith on our behalf It is all forgotten Is there even an investigation? #ableg #abpoli

Sooo...they're definitely a majority separatist party now. Looks like it's time to split up again. AND GO!

Robson Fletcher@robsonfletcher.com

The question of moving on after the referendum vs. continue to press for independence splits UCP supporters nearly down the middle. This suggests the issue will continue to divide the party even after the Oct. 19 vote, creating an ongoing challenge for Premier Danielle Smith.

Happy to read this. Carney says Albertans should vote ‘No to the Nine’ in referendum. For once I'm on the same page as the PM. YES to Canada and NO to the nine (and Premier Smith). And who cares about lanes. #ableg #abpoli #cnpoli

Sunny, windy Alberta is a leader when it comes to renewable energy in Canada. But new provincial policies are trying to rein in that growth. The Narwhal’s senior Prairies reporter, @drewanderson.bsky.social, explains.

It’s wild how much we’re all being manipulated to think the problem for everything is immigrants. It’s absolutely not! We hit the streets for an experiment. Watch the reactions and share the truth before we vote. Vote NO to the 9! And Option 1 (Remain) on Question 10. #abpoli #canpoli #ableg

Smith is using the contentious zoning issue to grab more power from urban centres in Alberta. Its authoritarian and must be unprecedented!! Are we all taking crazy pills together? We need some national coverage/analysis of this. Slippery slope politics.

With the latest provincial overreach, Danielle Smith is now ordering me how to vote at Calgary City Council. If I refuse, I risk losing my job. I want to work constructively with the province, even when we disagree. But we must be free to listen to residents and make fair decisions.

BREAKING: Premier Danielle Smith announces province will direct Edmonton to adopt infill housing rules that were in place before 2024, and require Calgary to maintain its current pre-2024 bylaw framework.

Every Calgarian knows that whether walking, cycling or driving, commuting Calgary has gotten scarier in recent years. Everyone has their opinions, personally, I think COVID infections multiplied by phone-brain-drain has made the populace less...capable...

A decade ago, Calgary city council approved a new pedestrian strategy that aimed to dramatically reduce carnage on city streets by 2025. Instead the opposite happened. We dig into why—and what comes next. #yyccc

...but here The Sprawl does some important follow up work and holds our city officials to account on why pedestrian safety hasn't been prioritized as promised back in 2022 with some other contributing factors as well. Good read, as usual.

Another summer of devastating wildfires that forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate from their homes should have been the wake up call this government needed to put the interests of Canadians ahead of the profits of the oil and gas industry.

Throwing billions in public money behind a pipeline at a time of climate breakdown – while sweeping aside environmental protections, meaningful Indigenous consultation and workers’ right to strike – is absolutely not in the national interest.

Tell us how much this pipeline will earn taxpayers, Prime Minister. Whats the business case for Canada?

Why should Albertans vote “no” on the four constitutional questions? Because we risk opening Pandora’s box — inviting another round of divisive and potentially detrimental constitutional debates that could well reduce, not expand, provincial autonomy. drjaredwesley.substack.com/p/pandering-...

Did the projections model the same waste as we've seen under the UCP in these scenarios? Given their utter inability (refusal) to successfully run public departments, Id give the federal government of Alberta around 2 years before we're in Greece 2009 scenario.

And for those that say, why don't you compare it to staying in Canada. That is the baseline assumption. In 3/4 scenarios (smooth vs difficult, short vs long run) Albertans would be economically worse off. Only in the smooth projection after 20 years, would Alberta be better off.

Everything this government does begins (and often ends) with one calculation: how can we help the oil and gas industry? Not workers. Not Albertans. Not even businesses. Just one industry -- one that's clearly captured this government.

The Alberta government is planning to take over the province's natural gas pipeline system to ensure tech companies and oil majors will have enough natural gas for their operations — even if it makes gas more expensive for Albertans, a leaked document reveals.
