We've gotta learn to believe these authoritarians are who they say they are the first time they tell us. Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar's home this morning. Her office says, "The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong." Here are some things I'm not seeing enough of in our online chatter. 🧵

When people on the left swarm in an ill-informed social media take down of a good person, integrity looks like speaking up to intervene. There have been a whole lot of takedowns of decent people and very little intervention in recent years.

I appreciate everyone who has used their voice to intervene in the attacks on Gloria Steinem just days after her death. You are giving me hope that the left can evolve past the silence so many have kept – out of fear of being cancelled themselves – in the face of attacks like these.

If we do not examine facts instead of running with rumors, put things in context, allow room for people to grow and evolve; if we continue to swarm and destroy people and their legacies based on soundbites and spotty information, how are we any different from those who follow MAGA or QAnon?

To all those in philanthropy holding the line and bolstering rather than abandoning movement infrastructure: thank you! & keep going!

TW: sexual violence. I am heart broken that my beloved movement elder and shero, Dolores Huerta, carried the weight of this secret all these years. May she, and every survivor who spoke up, feel our love and protection. Their truth sets us free.

Everyone in movement needs to wake the f*ck up and shine a feminist black light over every leader & organization, every strategy & campaign, every action and demand, to ensure that we are dismantling patriarchy alongside white supremacy, colonialism and capitalism. THERE. IS. NO. WORKAROUND.

While dropping off his kids, federal agents detained an Afghan refugee who served alongside U.S. special forces. He died less than 24 hours later. This is the 43rd death in ICE custody since Trump retook office. We need accountability and justice for all those who’ve died under their watch.

We need each other and our full strength more than ever in these heartbreaking times. Let’s use EVERY tool to make our movements stronger, let’s have each other’s backs, and let’s win! “Unrig the Game is one of the best books I’ve read in years.” Aparna Rae (Writer - Forbes, Business Insider)

I poured my heart and soul into this Unrig the Game and 45 amazing leaders added their powerful testimony. We broke a silence to make leadership better and our movements stronger. Every week, I receive heartwarming messages from leaders across the country:

Tanya Gobern-Wallace, ED of the National Black Worker Center Project, writes “In Unrig the Game I found a lifeline…as if someone finally understood the terrain I was navigating and offered instruction, a language for what I was experiencing, and tools I could actually use.”

SOTU is Tuesday. The real state of our union isn’t coming from that podium — it’s coming from us. I’ve been building something called WeAct. 559 people are already taking verified actions together. New SOTU response actions just dropped. 🧵 Here’s what’s live for the State of the Union:

One thing I love about my friend Edgar Villanueva is that he is not timid about scale. There’s nothing wrong with small & scrappy efforts and they can even win some things but i appreciate when people and orgs on the left play big and set audacious goals. We need more of this!

forbes.comHow This Entrepreneur Aims To Redirect $1 Trillion In PhilanthropySince founding the Decolonizing Wealth Project, Edgar Villanueva has redirected reportedly $1 billion towards "reparative" initiatives. His next goal? $1 trillion.
