I well remember a colleague who bought an apartment along one of the Dublin City quays in the ‘80s & him reporting, after a few weeks occupancy, that he had nowhere to keep his bike. And nowhere to store a vacuum cleaner!

Today is the 40th anniversary of bus deregulation. I’m considering celebrating the occasion by poring over copies of the pre deregulation Tyne and Wear timetables with that warm glow of memories of the days when buses always ran to time and there was seamless integration with the Metro……..

Lula:
"We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world.
We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."
I assume everyone who wrote about the hospital bike shed in their columns and talked about the hospital bike shed on their radio shows and tweeted about the hospital bike shed on their Nazi owned micro blogging app are very excited to discuss this
A bike shed for Kerry hospital - which takes cars off the road and results in cleaner air - became a national scandal earlier this year, amid media and politician-driven furore over "costs".
Thank you @pantibliss.bsky.social and @tinydbass.bsky.social for highlighting the hypocrisy!

The Irish government has all the money it needs to build new roads, give motorists rebate schemes and grants and reduce motoring fuel costs.
But they truly want to screw over public transport users!
Official papers reveal budget deal to reverse 20% fare cuts by June this year
This beautiful cartoon by Dave Walker shows what happens when road design takes everyone into account, allowing people to cycle and walk safely and comfortably, while also giving space to those who need to drive

Above all, drivers (and I am a driver) need to be more observant. I have seen people watching YouTube on their phones while behind the wheel and texting on the motorway.
Assistant Garda Commissioner Denis Ferry said "all pedestrians" including in urban areas should wear high visibility clothing.

Today a man high on meth juggling chainsaws in a childrens' playground killed 2 and injured 10.
Commenting on the tragedy, Sean Canney says it's the responsibility of everyone using playgrounds to look after their own safety.

BusConnects is not only responsible for the expansion of public transport services, there’s also a significant portion of future cycle routes tied up in them
The congestion you sit in every day is a political choice by this Government

Is there anything to be said for another Gardai / RSA / Minister roadside press conference with the Garda cars blocking the footpath and cycle lane, to really turbocharge the urging?
Minister of State for Transport Seán Canney has urged parents not to buy e-scooters for their children this Christmas.
"It is not a toy. It's actually a vehicle,” Canney said.

if only there was as much hysteria and panic around our kids' total loss of mobility freedom and youthful independence at the hands of our car first at all cost cities that there is for them on e-scooters.
Our kids want freedom, we just keep saying no.
Casualties down.
Pollution down.
Road danger down.
Trade in local shops up.
Numbers of vacant shops down.
