Great chance for people to finally check Dark Messiah! store.steampowered.com/app/5016100/...
It's a bit messy but it's Arkane setting the blueprint to a lot of what people love in Dishonored. Some battles and set pieces still feel cutting-edge, even 20 years later.
Dark Messiah: Community Edition is now available for wishlist on Steam.
- new game modes (NG+, co-op, trials)
- new mechanics (sliding, relics, spells, weapons, transformations)

Had a pumpkin carving get-together with the family, and for some reason no one else could see my pumpkin... Probably nothing, right @abioticfactor.com?
Welp. Had a job interview. Went well. Felt like I presented myself pretty well, a brief 'saying you too to your server'-scale goof aside. Now to just... sit here. And hope for the best.
...God, this is an important one for me. Anxiety's gonna eat me alive.
I've been having a pretty rough week, but then I got an email that turned my 'everything is kinda falling apart' anxiety into 'everything could suddenly become incredible so long as I don't mess this up' anxiety. Not happy with the constant chest tightness, but It'll be worth it if this pans out.
I had the Genesis version of this, and while I was terrible at it and never got further than the second or third level, the opening theme song was an absolute jam. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkAb...
I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽♀️
For the last month-ish, I've been working with some folks in some of the communities I'm in to set up a small-ish Vintage Story server with a lot of interesting mods in the hopes of building a little village together. Might be fun to dust off the ol' Twitch account for when that goes live...
Planning on sending out the invite links to a few friendgroups tomorrow, and anxiety's hitting me hard. Had several comments of interest when we first raised the possibility, but very little response to questions and polls posed later. Still... got a few confirmed folks, and I'm sure we'll have fun.
Impressed by some of the things I've done (and even a few that I'm still doing), but probably disappointed by where I've currently landed. Sometimes it takes a lot longer to get back on the horse than you'd like...

Been a while, so it might be worth putting out the call again:
If anyone knows of any open game dev QA roles, preferably remote though at this point I'm not too picky, I'm still on the hunt and have had no luck almost a year out from my previous company laying me (and most of the department) off.
I'm also open to entry-level Writer/Narrative roles, though those are obviously a much rarer sight. Just a terrible last few years to try and find jobs in this industry... Especially as someone in a non-coding role.
What if Cheats was a swarmkeeper ranger in a fantasy setting? If you wanna find out with me, you can watch us goof around in DJ&D tonight as @jocat.net runs a brand new little side campaign for us!

In response to the unprecedented number of game developers laid off this year, we have created a bundle on itch to benefit a Game Industry Hardship Fund, managed by @videogameworkers.bsky.social. More than 100 games for 10+ bucks! Please share widely and donate generously!

Just had a first poke around Fading Echo, which came out this week but seem to have sold approximately nil. Which is terrible, as it's VERY good and very slick so far. A kinda Splatoon-inspired platform action adventure. You can turn into a water-blob form that absorbs elemental effects from liquids
I am too old and tired to do it but someone should put a Meccha Chameleon guy badly hidden in that painting and a paint splattered shotgun in Lenin’s hand
Usually mustard and relish, but if fancy mustards and either sauerkraut or onions are available, those become top picks. Honorable mentions to chili and cheese.
Discovered the modpack that tries to smooth out Ghost Master's edges and add some new characters, and man... It's reminded me that I really DO enjoy the wacky pseudo-strategy horror pastiche of that extremely flawed game. AI and pathing still suck, but my mourning for the 'remaster' is renewed.
For anyone else who remembers that rough gem but hasn't gone back to check up on it in a while: www.moddb.com/mods/ghost-m...
If you remember being livid at the hospital but somehow liking the rest of the game anyway, your memories are correct.
A key point in Fahrenheit 451 is that books were banned because they made people depressed and uncomfortable. The novel's protagonist, Montag, is taken into custody after he reads a poem that makes a woman cry because she realizes the emptiness of her life.
Anyway I'm just going to say it outright: if you're an indie dev using AI for coding, above and beyond any other objections, what you're telling me is that you have no solidarity with anyone else in games. Not artists, not writers, not other coders. You beleive in personal convenience at all costs.
Love to have a job opening I'm earnestly interested in getting after a great interview, only to wake up on the day I'm supposed to hear something back to a missed call from a private number 20 minutes after a morning alarm that was, for no clear reason, was off.
Level designer Matty gave us a peek at their process for designing one of our tutorial levels!

It'd been several years since my last attempt at playing Sekiro. Thought after all my time loving Elden Ring and recently finishing Lies of P and its DLC, I could see if I'd overcome the barriers to enjoying such a classic.
It took one hour to realize I was getting angry CONSIDERING entering combat
It saddens me to know I'll never be a Real Gamer™, but I gave it my best shot. But when I'm avoiding the rank and file and groaning in frustration when my stealth fails because I dread swinging the sword, it doesn't bode well for facing the bosses again.
For two weeks, arena folks have been getting *daily* anti-union emails from the company fearmongering about how scary unions are. Now, they're sending letters to our homes. The union isn't a third party, WE ARE THE UNION. This doesn't scare me. I am voting YES for #uwotc-cwa!

By the way, if anyone's in the understandable position of not wanting to play the new Zaum, might I suggest giving Esoteric Ebb a look? It's fantasy Disco Elysium, and very damn good so far.
