This one doesn't just wander into my head. It's lodged there as chapter one of my inner monologue on how to be a parent. Do the thing. Live in the moment. You only get finite chances and they run out quicker than you'd ever imagine.

Oh hey, CarPlay Google Maps just added Gemini and now it’s lost a bunch of usefulness. Enshittification at work.

Human beings are responsible for the guardrails on ai agents, society can’t just foist responsibility on the robots. People have agency! They programmed the machines to do this.

We already have flying cars. They're called helicopters. They're really expensive and there are good reasons you have to have a pilot license and work with air traffic control to fly them. Putting jets on a sedan is not going to result in a better vehicle or transportation experience in any way.

No LEO trainer could credibly testify this way. Pointing a gun at someone has been, legally speaking, not just a use of force, but *deadly* force, for 30+ years.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

The person who trained the officer testified that ICE does not consider pulling a gun on someone a "use of force" and that ICE has no policies expressly banning pointing guns at other motorists. However, he was so evasive on the stand that the judge considered disregarding his whole testimony.

I don’t want to come across as puritanical, but gambling is a goddamn scourge.

"For so many years, there was a really strict line in the sand when it came to sports betting. Then the tide slowly began turning internally. It was very troubling for me to see the normalization of betting and ESPN’s complete acceptance of that, and finally, they just decided to go all in."

whenever trump's DOJ has to go in front of a judge to get yelled at, every lawyer on here is like "omg i've NEVER seen a judge this mad, if a judge yelled at me like this i'd immediately commit seppeku," and then at the end of the hearing the judge is like "ok no sanctions just don't do it again"

Bluesky, the app for books

Kate Elliott@kateelliottsff.bsky.social

I am not first and will be far from the last to say this: I have purchased so many books because I saw them recommended or publicized here on bsky. I cannot urge you all enough to KEEP TALKING ABOUT BOOKS. I know it's easier to talk up someone else's book, but this also means you, the shy author.

4.5 y/o: let’s fight. Wait, let’s play a game. Me: why don’t I teach you how to arm wrestle? Him: this is boring.

The arguments against impeaching Trump next year are all bad and spurious, but they're even weaker as applied to all the other impeachable members of the Cabinet, etc. And impeaching Hegseth for literal murder should be top of the list.

Pleased to speak with @nickturse.bsky.social about the Trump admin's yearlong killing spree. "There is no plausible legal justification for the strikes. They’re obviously not occurring in the context of an armed conflict and outside of armed conflict, the term for premeditated killing is murder."
